First, I was filling up with fuel in my 01 and a guy pulled up next to me in his brand new 05 2500 sb ctd with a 6 speed. While the trucks were filling up the guy asked me if I liked the truck and I told him yes. He then told me not to buy a new one that he hates his 05. He had about 5k miles on it and was ready to trade it in. He said on a good day with out a trailer that he might get 17 mpg and avg was 15-16. Power was ok, and he liked the fact that it was quieter but he hated the fuel economy.

Now I have a question about me truck, I have an 01 ctd 6 speed with edge comp, edm 100hp injectors, afe air intake, (new) carter fuel pump with big fuel line kit.

Problem 1:

Now my problems that I have is that after I put the 100hp injectors in it idles a little rougher.

Problem 2:

When I turn my edge on you can most definitely tell a deferents and you can tell a little deferents from 1,2 & 3; not a big deferents but a little. You however cannot tell any deferents in power from level 3,4 or 5. Lots of smoke and boost will get up to about 37 or 38. It will blow out so much smoke that you can't see the car behind you but theres not much power deferents. Any ideas??

Problem 3:

I took my truck to dodge because when I had the truck in neutral with the clutch out at a stop light and when the light turned green and I would push the clutch it would be almost imposable to get it into any gear. When I started in 2nd and let the clutch out it would have a weird feeling like the clutch slipped for just a second and it would be fine unless you really hammered it and you would have a slit vibration. Dodge told me that my clutch was going out. So I have a new South Bend FE clutch installed, problem with the transmission going in gear was fixed but the other problem is not. It still feels weird in 2nd, fine in all other gears.

Any help would be great thanks and sorry for the long post

I know I know smack me in the head but I do not have a fuel guage yet.

Dodge said that everything tested ok on the fuel pressure but I know that they are not the best at testing this stuff

A larger injector isn't going to be as effective at metering minute amounts of fuel such as they have to do at idle. My DD2s are slightly rougher at idle as well.

If you still have the stock turbo, you're out of air. If the smoke is increasing and the power isn't on the higher settings, you're overfueling, and the extra fuel is only being partially burned and thrown out as soot (black smoke). In addition to the smoke, your EGTs (exhaust gas temperatures) are probably through the roof on these higher settings. The fix - more air to go with the additional fuel.

I'm not understanding your current complaint well enough to offer a comment.

I agree with RustyJC

1) This is typically a by-product of larger injectors. Were they new? What model did you install? My DDIIIs first introduced a lope at idle. I had a loaner ECM from a truck requiring different software that made it sound like a dragster at times.

2) You probably need a better turbo to burn the amount of fuel you are now providing via the injectors, however you should still feel a definate fun factor difference. I believe that 37 to 38 psi out of a stock turbo is beyond it's efficiency map which causes it to push hot air, which lowers performance. Have you checked for codes? Another thing, how (method) did you tap your VP wire? And, how did you ground your comp wire?

A fuel gauge really makes diagnostics a lot easier.

Responses are only as good as whom ever is on and/or shortly thereafter a thread is started. With the volume of threads being started it is easy to get lost in the shuffle. I can appreciate the frustration, sometimes I wonder if everybody has me on their ignore lists. :-laf But as I expect you are aware, posts like #2 probably will not help much. TTT (To the top) might be more effective. Fortunately we can delete our less than constructive posts ;)

Thanks for the reply

As far as my EGTs I havn't experianced threw the roof egts yet. I pull a 13' enclosed trailer full of tools (5 to 6k lbs) up about a 5 or 6% grade and about a mile long at 75 mph on level 3x3 and never go over 800 degrees. I can be going 35 or 40 mph and shift to 6th and boog the engine at 1100 or 1200 rpms on 5x5 and not get higher that 1000 degrees. Blow so much smoke that it turns my white trailer black and you can't see the car behind you. Never ever had any problems with egt problems.
