2003 SO 5 Speed 3500 Dually ~94,000 miles

Starting a few weeks ago I noticed a 1" to 2" puddle, depending on the day, under the rear of my engine. It appears to be coming from the rear main area. Been appearing every night after sitting for 10 hours or so.

Then last week I started noticing a quarter sized drop of diesel on the ground in the front. It's dripping off of the crank position sensor wiring. After searching on here I found this is the normal leak position for when the injection pump is leaking through it's seals. No change in startup, driving, etc. Also checked the dipstick and no smell of diesel and it's right at the level it was when I did my last oil change around 1000 miles ago.

Question is, is it safe to drive like this? I'm worried about the clutch and the rear main especially... Or is there something else common that leaks in the rear instead of the rear main seal that it could be?

The truck IS under warranty till 100k but the dealer is taking there sweet time in doing the warranty changover paperwork. I had to jump through a bunch of hoops and track down the previous owner to sign the papers and they are still "processing". So I most likely won't be able to take it into the dealer till next week or so but I need the truck everyday so I can't just park it.

Oh, the previous owner removed the cat and straight piped the truck. I removed his stuff and put on a 4" magnaflow exhaust and banks exhaust brake but did not install the cat. Will this cause warranty problems? Should I reinstall the cat temporarily? The p-owner gave me all the stock exhaust stuff including the cat.

The missing cat won't cause warranty issues unless it is poor dealer, then all bets are off. You might check the back of the engine to be sure the oil dripping from the rear main is not coming from above, like the valve cover gasket or head gasket. These have been known to leak and make it look like the rear main is leaking.

Good luck.

The dealer will replace your CP-3 pump as a warranty item. I just wen't through that last week. Be sure to compile a list of everything that needs to be handled as warranty work and you will only have to pay your $100 deductable this visit.

Oh, also, I had what sounded like the infamous injector tick when I first bought the truck during last summer. It went away during the winter but would like to get it looked at when I take it in. Will they do anything about it since it's not doing it now? I figure it won't start doing it again till the summer maybe and I'll be out of warranty by then... It would only tick on startup for the first 10 minutes or so. Sounded like only one injector.

Not likely! STAR won't let them replace an injector if there's no sign of a problem other than you saying there's a problem. :(

Perhaps I can make you feel a bit better about your existing injectors. I had a SEVERE knock just off idle under light loads that would come and go with a period of about 3 months. This happened regularly for the first 30k miles or so. It was so bad that it sounded like a piston might jump through the block at any moment. I had my purchasing dealer listen to it once and I got the usual "they all do that" story. So I resolved to just drive it until it exploded and they'd have to give me a new engine.

Well, around 30k the noise disappeared and has not returned in about a year. Of course, now that I've typed this it'll be back tomorrow morning.

Well mine is not near that loud... It actually sounds like a valve tick.

I'm just itchy to get the TST installed to help my gutless wonder SO truck get up the hills when hooked to my trailer. I was hoping to buy the TST in a couple weeks but now with this I figured I might as well wait till the warranty is completely up so if anything else happens I'm covered. But going 35 mph up hills is getting old...
