The VM 3.0 (Ecodiesel) has the same Pump CP4 as the Ford, GM has the mounted GP the same as the 2019 6.7.
Once the CP4 starts to Fail its a particle maker, ( Unlike the CP3 ) the CP4 will contaminate Injectors. The CP3 combustion fuel is 100% separate from lubricating fuel of the internals.
The CP4 must run at 90-100% capacity to survive. Thats why all rail(s) run electronic relief Valve, this Valve allows excess fuel produce by the CP4 to return to Tank.
It is more pertinent to keep your fuel Tank full with CP4 Apl, IMO DO NOT ALLOW YOUR TANK TO DROP BELOW 1/4 DURING HOT SUMMER MONTHS, and when convenient keep it full.
Now to answer the lift pump needed for the Ecodiesel Ford, The COV is set at 55PSI+ on NONE GP pumps if it drops below this the COV WILL NOT OPEN, THUS CIRCUIT FOR COMBUSTION FUEL will closed, a NO start will occur.
The 6.7 CP4/CP3 only need Positive pressure for the GP to lift internal pressure of the Pumps.
