This guy did one heck of a job coming up with the KDP jig, and then making multiple copies and putting them out there. All who have saved your Cummins with one of his jigs, it's time to give back a little. Someone suggested $20. That's what I am sending also.

thanks for the follow up on that robert

the ca kdp is ready to move if needed... ... if no takers by tonight then its gonna come to my house so i can do mine

thanks Brandon

I've just had a phone conversation with John (CPFF) and we've discussed the possibility of him making up more sets of the jig and tool kits.

Of course his concern was the accountability and control of the kits. Maybe an e-mail list of their location and next destination can be arranged. ???

We are looking into posting the instructions for those that were "lost" during the travels of the original 12 sets.

He does appreciate the funds sent to defray the cost of the shipping of the original sets.

KDP Fixture

Frank, I received one friday and am ready to ship it to the next person. I think Brandon is going to run a list on the one I have out of Calif. Will ship it as soon as Brandon gets back to me. I think it just might be a good idea if the fellows could do their pin killing on a weekend, if thats their time off and then get it in the mail on monday, giving it the work week to get to the next person so he can do his on the weekend. This would save the fixture from sitting idle in a post office over a weekend. I am definately going to send John some funds.

Frank, when you speak with John find what the cost would be to sell me a kit. I'll keep it at my house and whoever wants to use it could come here. If I own it it's not likely to get lost.

Jay

I'd pay decent $$$ to own a kit to help all of the local CTD owners. Oh, I mean help the local CTD owners who care.

Brandon How many Jigs would you be willing to keep track of? Anyone else Willing to do the same?

CPFF: I have #8 in Az that I recieved on friday and did two trucks this weekend. I think Brandon is keeping track of this one and I'm waiting for him to tell me who to send it to. You did a great job making these jigs and I sure appreciate what you have done to help us.

I am here ... ... ... ... well let me ask danelle (wife) she is starting to take over all my emailing and shipping and such so she might be able to keep track of a couple... ... ..... but I think there is enough out here is it really necessary to get lots more out here... a few more i think would be ok i dunno just thinking

michael I have no takers on the list right now so please just hang onto it for a little bit and we will let you know where she should go next...

thanks

Brandon

Okay. I will admit that I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer. But. WHat is a KDP jig and what is it used for? Anyone?

There is a dowel pin in the front of the engine block that is used to align the aluminum timing cover and in several cases this pin has worked itself free and dropped down into the gears causing lots of damage. By removing the fan, shroud, alternator, belt, top radiator hose, coolant bottle, winshield fluid bottle, idler pulley you are down to the cover and can use the fixture to drill and tap a hole in front of the disastardly dowel pin. Then install a bolt to keep it captive. Everybody else can do this in 1. 5 hours, it took me 4.

We have it down to 45 minutes or so for the NWBOMBers (5 trucks in 4 hours. ) How do we do that? Well, we DON'T remove the following items you listed above: Shroud, top radiator hose, windshield washer bottle, idler pulley (unless you mean the fan hub bearing assembly, which has to be removed. ) Basically, we remove the fan, but just drop it out of the way. Then, remove the alternator brackets, remove the belt, fan pulley, fan hub bearing assembly and coolant bottle. This gives us enough room to do what we need to do. Removing anything else is unneccessary, and takes up additional time.

Scollins, you guys took it one step too far, with all the fixes I've done I haven't removed the coolent bottle once. It may just be the drill I use though, a cordless.

I should have added I have arthritis pretty bad and had to remove a regulator from the wall and replumb it to use for the repair. My fan nut was very tight and couldn't get it off till I went and bought a wrench to hold the pulley. I would imagine everybody will have a different time for the first one.

Yeah, the cordless drill we have used (the same one for both times the jig has been to Seattle) is quite large. It is a pistol grip 18v, 1/2" DeWalt Cordless Drill (not the t-handle kind. ) The combo is quite long by the time you chuck the drill bit, so the removing the bottle tends to help. Now that we know the trick tp getting the bottle out, it is about a 5 second job. We don't disconnect the bottle hoses, just flip the bottle out of our way.

Yes, there is a very good chance of one coming to FL--if I can get someone to volunteer to keep track of its whereabouts, like Brandon is doing with the CA jig.

John,

how about sending it to the Central Florida TDR chapter president, Pogodually, or vice BCFAST. If they are reading this thread perhaps they will voulunteer and it would be centrally located to the state and during get togethers several can be done each time. It might be that if each local chapters officers get and maintain custody of these, they will get the most use.

Not to mention maybe get more "donation" for your genorosity. ;)
