How many jigs are left???

I've been day dreaming---but how many jigs are still being circulated? I read about a few of them being lost.

I need to fix my KDP, and I'm sure there are a few St Louis area TDR members that could use the jig as well. I could coordinate a STL get together if we can locate a jig and get it in route to STL. If someone near the St Louis has a jig or knows who does, please let me know. I would definitely like to find out who's in line to use it and to get on the list.

Thanks again

Kurt

Hey Brandon, I'd be interested in that kind of party! Not sure where Oakdale is, but I'm guessing its about three days hard ride to the north. I'm in Norco, kinda by the I-10/I-15 intersection. If you can track down a jig, I'll bring the cool bevredges. Also, if you have trouble tracking down this Gil Moncreif, my father in law lives in San Clemente. If you can dig up an address, I'll go knock on his door... ...

I tried to dig up more info on Gil, even did a Yahoo people search, no luck. The only way for us to contact him is though a PM, but I don't think he is visiting this site anymore. That is unless a moderator wants to step in and give out more info, TDR should have his email and address. I'm really ticked (would use other words but the would end up as ******)about these disappearing jigs.

I put a thread on tdr website area for some moderator help... ... .

i got some info and could get an address off the net but i gotta pay and give cc number... ... kinda resistant to that since my cc got hacked earlier this year... ... . sigh

NON TDR

A mild protest here folks. CPFF sent me the jig before I was a member on the strength of the E-mail I sent alone. You all know how I got the E-mail address also.

The primary impetus to join up came from the original post on this topic as I wanted to share my knowledge of the history of the California jig.

So you see, a non-member (formerly) sent the jig on, as per the agreement, and it disappeared while in the possession of a TDR member.

For my part, I am sorry. It really tears me that I did what was required, and it disappeared anyway.

Again, I'm sorry.

Is there any such thing as a blueprint for the jig? I have a machine shop and could make one. Even if I knew for sure where to drill, I could fabricate my own jig.

Michael Az

Jay, don't feel bad, you did all that was required of you and more. I had no intention of flaming nonmembers, just commented that it may be harder to track the jigs down if they passed to a nonmember.

Michael, CPFF used a CNC machine to make the jigs. I'm not a machinist but couldn't the program just be emailed?

I'm sure that anyone who has used the jig will agree that it's a work of art the way it's made. There are drill, tap and counter sinking extensions included with it that spin on hardened bushings, all with stops in the appropriate places, all built by hand. The original prototype required a engine removed from the truck to build. It is much more than I ever expected, that's why I'm pi$$ed they disappeared.

I got ahold of Gil Moncrief by e-mail and he e-mailed me back with the name of the guy he sent the KDP jig to: Rick Colston.

I e-mailed Colston but haven't heard back yet. I'll post as I hear.

Progress!

illflem, it sure is a shame this has happened. Maybe it would have been a good idea to sell the jigs to the guys that needs it, then he would sell it to the next guy on the list. Even if it is $150 or whatever, cause you would get it all back and the jig would keep moving. Guess people just can't be trusted. The cnc program wouldn't help me because my machines aren't cnc.

Sounds like a complicated piece of work.

Thanks

Michael

Michael, that's sort of the way it happened. CPFF mailed the first jigs out to people who contacted him that wanted to buy a jig feeling that they would be the most responsible just because they were willing to pay. It's really no trouble to keep track of the jigs, they just need to be found and passed on, not just sit.

a few bad apples...

It's really too bad that tthis has to happen. Now you know why they have core charges on so many parts. They just can't let it be in the good nature of everyone else, and have to be greedy, and ruin it for the whole group. Just goes to show that you can't do something nice for a stranger anymore... !

Sorry guys, just had to vent,

Andrew

FOUND THE CA. KDP JIG!!!

A guy named Rick has it and I should be getting it from him tomorrow, Sat. or next week. Depends on my work schedule.

Good job, rrausch, you must be a pretty good detective! Do you know who you are going to send it to next? As I live in Az, maybe I could get on the Ca list. Or maybe there isn't any list?

Thanks

Michael

Congrats Robert, it sounds like the CA jig made it to the third user then stalled for seven months. Now that you have it someone should take care of scheduling it, I would limit it's travels to CA, NV, AZ, NM, UT and CO. Maybe TX also, but they were supposed to have their own. It's better not to get a list going here in the forums, too hard to keep track of. I had 32 people on the NW list at one time, now down to 6 by only doing it though PM with a line in my signature. Many times I left it out of my sig because the jig was booked so far ahead. The NW jig has done at least 75 fixes. Lots of times 5+ fixes were done at one party. When there are a groups of folks close by each other I let them skip in line to keep the shipping down. Just ask that folks don't divert the jig from it's path without asking, that's how it gets lost. The NW jig kit has picked up a lot of the other things needed to do the fix in it's travels like air hose w/ valve, Loc-Tite, extra bolts etc. What it has that may come in really handy for you guys is many pages of instructions with folk's notes on ways they found best to do it. Slybones has the NW jig now until the 2nd, maybe you should email him and see if he can send you copies of the paperwork. I know that my instructions were much different than the original ones and made it a lot easier. With about 30 fixes under my belt personally I got it down to 45 minutes. Now only 7 more lost jigs although I think two might be in the hands of shops that keep them all the time. Now it's time for someone in the mid-west or Texas to do some detective work.

good job RRaush

KDP party

If a group of individuals wish to gather in Santa Maria, I would be willing to host a get together KDP kill at my house.

Just email me and if enough respond we could get the jig sent back here (maybe) and go to town on that bad boy. Then we could send it to the next party. Perhaps before or after Brandon's place?

CA KDP JIG!!!!

OK OK OK I'm the one that has been too busy, gone on vacation, excuse, excuse etc. I really haven't had the thing for "seven months". The good news is that Robert and I got together and killed our dowel pins today and I will be more than willing to ship the wonderful little device to whom ever happens to be next on the list. Speaking of list, WHAT LIST?! If someone will point me to the list, consider it GONE. I'll even send it express mail... .

Thanks to the developer of the KDP Jig. Hope it finds its way to many many more pesky, dangerous dowel pins. :) :) :)

Sincerely

 Rick "the jig-napper":p ;)
