Leaky rail pressure relief valve -wierd-

Hi

Could some of you CR experts give me a hand or better yet, your knowledge? The CR pressure relief valve has a history of failure. I have been looking on the web for a few days to find out why.

This is what I've heard. (1) The spring weakens and looses its force (2) The seat and poppet become etched (3) The poppet tip breaks off

What have you guys experienced? Have you done any testing on the CR relief valve?

Thanks for helping me out.

Rob

we have had three experiences with the pop off valve. the first a fca valve malfunctioned and caused the pop off to releve the pressure many times before i could get it to my shop. apparently the pop off valve can not take many 30,000 lb hits before damage. the next failure we had we never found a reason, it was replaced and code went away. we verified the pop off valves were bad with a leak down test. you can just take the banjo bolt out of the valve and start the engine, no fuel should flow out of the valve unless the pressure exceeds 26,000 lbs in watching it on a gauge it appears to pop off at 30,000 and does not close until about 24,000. we are still trying to diagnose a third problem that is causing high rail pressure and like the first one it happened about a hundred miles from the shop and like the first i was towing heavy. this one has not damaged the pop off valve yet. it is on a truck we were experimenting with for higher fuel mileage. we have dual cp3 pumps on this one and makes it very hard to diagnose. on this one the pressure is about 7,00 psi idle and with no load on it the pressure increases with rpm. at about 3,000 rpm i can hit 30,000 lbs and watch it pop open. i have replaced the fca and the cascade valve on each pump with no change. i think it is the dual cp3 controller. the signal to it and the signal to the fca on each looks the same but i am going to replace it next.
