For me, the smoke while "light footing it" bothers me. Even very gentle acceleration from a stop will produce a pretty heavy gray haze or black smoke even on low settings. That being said, I could care less about smoke under heavy throttle. Also, driving light footed with Smarty, it makes my transmission shift into 3rd gear by 10mph = very annoying. If I download stock software back in, or if I floor it with Smarty software installed, it will shift great, so it's not the transmission.

If I could suggest anything, I would like to see the power applied more linear with the throttle pedal movement, if that makes sense. I like the low boost fueling, but I wish it wouldn't happen at 1" of thottle movement. I believe this is the main cause of my transmission problem. Other than that I think it's a great product, and it shows alot of promise!

Raychem had a great point. My truck being an 05 has no TV cable to adjust to extend the shifts. The signal comes from the ecm. Is it possible for Smarty to do transmission adjustments?

I do not have the transmission shift problems as some of you, but I am not running a stock trans either. But before my trans was built I did not have the shifting problems either. Just a heads up.

mark, it may come down to changing springs in the vb.

I spoke to Suncoast about that. It will fix the problem, but when the ecm is put back to stock, the shifts will extend high into the rpm range under normal driving. I'll wait on some of the future programming updates before I start to play with the valvebody, or another 10,000 miles when it's time to change the trans fluid. Whichever comes first. :-laf

Lethal, how tight is your converter. Mine is pretty tight. On my buddies truck, also an 05, his coverter is a bit looser, so the problem is less apparent. If I drive it with very little throttle though, I can get the 1... ... ... 2. . 3 shift at 10-15mph, but I have to "try" to make it happen.

I'd agree with a less aggressive pedal on lower settings. It's very hard to keep the smoke down when driving "lightly. "

Big P... . I am running a 91% torque converter.

That's pretty tight. I guess you're just lucky! :-laf Or I'm unlucky. :{ Atleast I know I'm not the only one with this problem though. Some others with stock and modified trannys say the same thing.

I have a friend that has that problem with a bone stock truck also.

Big P,

My transmission is stock and shifts the same way you described. It really bothers me. I wish I could find a "sure" way to fix it. I want to upgrade my transmission, but I want to make sure my upgraded transmission doesn't do the same thing.

My main concern is smoke on light throttle and CC surging

Those of you that say they can control the smoke, I believe, are using stock turbos. I've noticed that most of the people complaining of smoke have an aftermarket turbo. I have a SPS 62 and the smoke is annoying just driving around normally. I like the idea of the lower levels having milder low boost fueling and the upper levels as-is.

As far as the cruise control surging, it's not noticable on flat ground but once you get on any kind of rolling slopes it surges pretty bad. I have an 04. 5.

Thanks Marco. Love the Smarty otherwise.

The only issue I have with the cruise contol is the rate of deceleration. It acts like you've just lifted off the throttle instead of eased off. The acceleration isn't a problem for me.

Otherwise, I love it.

I use cruise control all the time, and I don't really know what problem you guys are talking about, mine seems to work fine  Please explain the surge issue. Is it when you hit the resume button after tapping the brakes?

gitchesum has it right. The problem is when you crest a hill and the the throttle abruptly cuts off instead of easing off to maintain speed. The transition going uphill is smooth.

I've noticed lately when I let off the pedal, my truck seems to want to keep going like maybe the torque convertor is still locked up. This is with the stock auto for now though too. I removed the smarty last night and it took away the problem.

I luv the touchy go pedal and can control the smoke without a problem. I have been running on setting 9 since the HTS TRANSMISSION and luv it.
I feel the same way, I did an update 3. 03b recently and it feels alittle laggy now, or is it just me.

I got one of the first one's and it's FLAWLESS. Have not updated, and don't intend too. Have used SW1 almost continually since I got it and have adjusted nicely to the quick pedal. Just takes a little time IMO. Only surging

I've noticed is when I'm not holding Steady Pressure on the pedal( the music will do that to you) :-laf Have an identical heavy pull 27K combined coming up. First time was stock and got 9. 8 mpg's hand calc. Doing 70, 75,80, 85  Last few days been running SW3 to get used to it. Will post MPG's then. As far as smoke is concerned, no problem. Kinda wish it layed it on a little more :D Going to wait till I get up with Dave Goerrand before I turn it up further. Patience

I'm Lovin It :D

I have a problem that has started poping up. P-0299 Boost in range low. When this happens the truck will not fuel much over idle. Once removed every thing is fine again.

I also have the same cruise control isues the others are having. The c/c seems to be over shooting the set speed and then backing down abruptly like the c/c is a bit slow to react to speed increases.

I have no cruise control issues. Smoke is easily controllable too.

Only complaints are:

1) like others mentioned, touchy throttle especially when on rough roads, stop-and-go traffic, parking lots with speed bumps, etc.

2) The TST works like dog poo with the Smarty on "no timing" programs.

In regards to 2) I get a ton of timing rattle - sounds like marbles in a coffee can - on any TST setting except stock so it's as if the Smarty still does something with the timing on its no timing programs. I am thinking that this is due however to the bigger injectors and getting the same volume of fuel injected in a shorter period of time, which would be the same in effect as advanced timing.

I don't feel like shelling out any more coin for the fancy schmanzy TST with 4-programs and adjustable timing (my TST serial # is low and without gauges) so would it be possible to tame the Smarty "no timing" programs to take better advantage of the dynamic timing changes that the ECM offers and that the TST manipulates?

I've also got an early TST, talking to Mark last week it is posible to get a reflash for everything but pressure, but you do have to get an upgraded remote.
