How long is your crank position sensors lasting? My original lasted 175K miles. The first replacement lasted 3K, took it back under warranty and that one lasted 5K miles (aftermarket parts). Took it back and got money back. When these went bad, the truck wouldn't start at all. Bought one from Cummins. It has lasted almost 25K miles and is starting to throw the P0336 code and the tach goes to zero. If at idle the engine sometimes will stumble when the tach goes to zero. If off idle it will not stumble, tach just goes to zero. Doesn't appear even Cummins replacement units are any good.

Does the sensor show any signs of wear, just a scratch would indicate the tone ring is loose and hitting the sensor. I would reach in there with a screwdriver and verify the ring is tight. Mine came loose, went through the pan at 70 mph and completely trashed my engine. Make sure that ring is tight! On mine the small screws that hold it to the crank had sheered off. Good Luck

I haven't pulled it out yet. I'm waiting on a new one to come in. I always take a screwdriver and check the tone wheel.

When I bought the one from Cummins, the salesman said I was good for about 2 years and laughed. Irronically it's within a month of 2 years.

At 75K miles the cam sensor had gotten intermittent and was causing the tach to go to zero, but no engine stumble and it set the cam sensor code.

Got new sensor installed. When I turned key on check engine light didn't stay on. Started truck and light stayed off. Reset codes but haven't driven it yet. Checked tone wheel while sensor was out. It is tight (turned engine 1/2 way around and checked both sides).

I have driven the truck (2000) for the last 3 days. No problem. I noticed the sensors are marked "Made in Mexico". I guess this is better than "Made in China".
