ISO 2013 Steering box advice

Grumpy, have you ever done an oil analysis ? If so how many miles and what was the silicone numbers?

one time... last year after a 17000 mile round trip pulling the RV from Alaska to SWFLA. ,,, good old 14 dollar a gallon Delvac 1300, air filter would be a Fram and the oil filter was probably a Champion or a Hastings . the TBN was still above 5.. .

honestly, people get all hung up on OE stuff when plenty of good quality aftermarket brands offer alternatives and most of that fear is derived from good marketing and little personal experience on the end users part..

Fleet I worked at bought whatever OEM or aftermarket filter was available at the lowest cost..
over the years I saw every name brand of filter available used in place of the others with no discernible difference in end result...

I saw Donaldson, Fram, Wix, Luberfiner,Fleetguard, Baldwin etc used in the same applications which led me to decide that when a difference makes no difference you might as well use the cheaper version and the second thing I learned was when you shop around ( my employer had purchasing agents who did the search) you may get OEM cheaper than alternative brands.

With oil filters, I have always used Donaldson. From what I read 10 years ago it looked like the best quality filter. Used Fleetgaurd for air filters and Mopar for both fuel filters.

@rynosback, that was directed at @Hoefler post. He stated it was 120K and that was on his '14. Just wanted to post what was in the OM. I use the Fleetguard CCV and have used Racor, Fleetguard for bed mount FF and Mopar or Fleetguard on the engine FF. AF have been a mix of brands. All have been the thick type and best longevity from Fleetguard/Mopar. OF's are Stratapore with 15w40 dino.
@rynosback, just remember to do the service reset dance when it appears! You can search on here or PM me and I'll send you the steps.

Thanks, I did not think that you were directing that at me at all. I’m at 64k and going to change the crankcase filter. I started this post to see what people were using. I was just stating what I have been using for what. No one has said anything about the valve cover gasket, so I’m assuming that if it comes of cleanly, I’m good to go to reuse it?

The top cover that the CCV filter resides below is just a cover and isn't sealed at all. The CCV filter itself uses O-rings to seal directly to the actual valve cover that's underneath.

You need to check other sites as well. Amazon and their market pricing, will bite you at times! I've usually found things cheaper and with free shipping elsewhere. Shop around.

definitely.. not everything is cheaper on Amazon and you definitely have to know your way around their website
as you can find the same thing over and over at a variety of pricing, but if you have Prime Membership with free shipping it becomes a useful thing.
for me, it eliminates a minimum of a 30 mile round trip if I was too go purchase something
in other words unless I Need it Now and the prices are similar, why spend a couple hours going to get it.

.

I do know you can check Amazon Daily and find different deals than you did yesterday..

I used to run a website and sell motorsports accessories and parts on Amazon for the bike shop I worked at. I had over 200K different part numbers listed on Amazon. We had a company we paid $5K a month that supplied me with a software system that would run my prices against other sellers prices multiple times a day and adjust it within set parameters that I'd set. Pricing may change several times in a day on an item.

Be very careful with "genuine" filters purchased off of Amazon. There is a write up in issue 127 you will want to read when it comes out.
you mean Ebay... ebay is the flea market..
amazon is pretty reputable, they will kick out a seller in a minute if they misrepresent what they are selling as legitimate.

Interesting policy. I purchased a Milwaukee battery on Amazon last year and when it would not release from the tools I sent it back to Milwaukee for warranty service. They returned it with a letter indicating it was counterfeit. I contacted Amazon and they said the seller is no longer on Amazon. Read the story in issue 127 when it comes out concerning filters.
I followed the link above and the only people that can report counterfeit is a registered seller. There does not appear to be a way for purchasers to report it. In fact Amazon rejected my review where I provided proof that the Milwaukee battery was counterfeit. So I'm not sure how the end user is really protected beyond the 30 day Amazon return policy.

yeah, you might have a point.. but Amazon does get rid of the stuff, but you can imagine the sheer volume they deal with, you and I are insignificant.
