Someone broke into my 92' crew cab conversion last night. They broke the small fixed glass on the drivers side rear door. Does anybody know where I can find a replacement? It took me a long time to find the 85' cab and during that search it became pretty clear that the glass would also be hard to find.

Thanks,

Paul

crew cab glass

You got that right!!!

I have two complete crew cab trucks but as yet have not started selling parts. I will sell some things later as one is just for parts anyway. If you hit a rock wall I could be persuaded. Meantime I know where there is another that has some glass out of it already. I will check on that.

On another angle, I was talking to a glass supplier. He told me that for five hundred dollars I could have a form made for most any glass. The glass would be extra over the form price. It IS possible to have the glass no matter what. I have a wild hair and want to extend the length of the front doors. There would have to be a different window made for that.

83 crew cab

Does either of those trucks have manual trannys? If so how about getting back with me on them. How sound is the cab structure?

value of crew cab

I think condition would be everything here. I can only say what mine cost and give a general condition statement. Both of the trucks I have came from the coast area and are retired military vehicles. One is really sad with rust coming through the cab at the four top corners. I can't really figure this out. The rust seems to be coming from under the roof. Both were as plain as dirt from the beginning. So nothing fancy in the way of interior. The seats are bench front and rear and need covers but are not trashed out. A good trim shop could make them nice. They are one ton srw setup with 4:11 gears. Big block four bbl automatic without overdrive. Both run and drive around. Serious front seal leak on the one transmission.

Neither bed is much. One has a crunched front fender behind the wheel. Front trim is pretty good on both. Poor quality repaint on both. The paint is ok quality but the paint job was crappy. I think it was done in both cases by a county maintainence shop with a pine top for the applicator. Probably paid the military 50 dollars for them by the county. Not too good in the dash/wireing department. 1940 style dash button for the starter on one. Some wires dangling on both.

So you get the picture. I paid 1100 dollars total for the two. I would not take that for them as I have not been able to find anything better and will sell parts only after I determine what my needs are to have one of everything that is good condition. This thread started with "help some guy broke my rear side glass and where the heck will I ever find one" or something like that. Look at the readers rig proto of that truck and you will see a beautiful truck that I can truely admire. I would like to see on national tv that the perp was caught and castrated for the crime. But I drift.

Don't know what a nice crew cab in your area would bring. There were some that were very nice from the factory and if they were still nice should bring a premimum even without the CTD.

The post regarding a whole door for 35 dollars!! Buy both back doors and put them away. None of that stuff is available any where as far as I know. Nothing about the crew part is supported by Dodge.

I have given some consideration to a six door setup. I have done some cut and paste with printout pictures where I make the front door longer and with other things like western hauler rear bed etc. Six doors gets to looking like a limo. A longer front door gives a nice proportion to the crew cab. It would be nice on an extended cab for getting into the back.

Thanks for all the input. Sorry I did not reply sooner, but I was away from the computer for the rest of the weekend. Also, thanks for the offers. I have full glass coverage on the truck, so at this point I am waiting to see if the glass company can come up with the window. If they can't then I will have to hunt it down myself and may take some of you up on your offers.

The government bought thousands of the crew cab trucks back in the 70's and 80's. I bought a couple of Dana 60 rear axles from a junk yard out of crew cab military Dodges back in the 80's. These were in a rural junk yard about 20 miles Southeast of Memphis. He had probably 30 or 40 of them at that time.

This particular junk yard is now gone, but if you know of or can find any junk yards or surplus dealers that buy military surplus they might be a good source of all types of body and chassis parts.

Hope this helps!

It did not take long for the insurance company to realize that they wouldn't get the glass through their preferred glass shop. I told them I could find it and they authorized me spend up to $125. 00. Vintage had new OEM glass (NOS) for $30. With overnight shipping I only spent $65. 00. Rick from vintage said he had the 1/4 windows, but not the main windows for the rear doors. He did say that even though they are hard to come by he could probably locate some.

I found Vintage by searching on http://car-part.com/. I got 15 or so hits and sent off emails to all. Rick got right back to me.

Thanks for all the help.
