Finished a search on this but couldn't find any info.....vehiicle is a 2018 3500 with 82K on the odometer....my cruise control doesn't always turn on when pressed. It's a crap shoot when it does work. Anyone else have this issue?

I have an appointment soon with local dealer to trouble shoot and repair. When I take it to them, I wanted to have discussion with them and if the problem doesn't show up while they drive it, I will have them replace the most likely part that could cause this problem.
Any ideas of which part of the cruise control system would be most likely failing that I could replace if needed?

Mine does this every so often, when it cold (well,So Cal cold anyway)....I just give it flick with my middle finger and it starts working.

19Kgvw,
I suffered with that same cruise control issue for years, every time I took it in it worked and they couldn't duplicate the non-op condition. Finally it stopped working and when I took it in for a recall the dealer was able to correct it. Here is their writeup:

Cust states cruise control no longer operates. Poor connection at cruise control switch. DTC P0579. Duplicated customer concern. Found cruise control buttons inop. Found DTC P0579. Determined will check steering wheel wiring to right cruise control switch and upon checking for resistance found that when I moved harness cruise control started working. Checked connector and all looks normal. Working as designed after diag. Verified connector locked in place. Perform wiggle test and found cruise control still working. Determined there was a poor connection at switch. If issue continues will need to replace switch and harness.

This was repaired the first week of March 2022. Have had no issues with it since, all good. Hope this helps.

thanks GSykes- I'll take this info with me when I go to dealer tomorrow for service. I'll let you know the outcome.

Same problem on my 2018 just after I bought it. They replaced the button pad under warranty and the problem was solved.

follow up on this topic - 2nd visit to dealer and they confirmed that the cruise control didn't work. The following is the write up-

"verified concern cruise control intermittent. scanned vehicle and found P0579-00-SPEED CONTROL SWITCH 1 PERFORMANCE. performed diagnostic and at this time recommend a new steering wheel switch. there is a star case S1508000480 that pretty much notates to pay close attention to the diagnostic because sometimes the switch is not at fault but the Signal 1 switch contact did not slose when signal 2 closed. this caused a P0579 error"

I don't know enough about the system to understand the details but it may help some of you. Next week I'll be back at the dealer for switch R&R.
