I have an '03 305 hp, I went to set my cruise the other day and it wont set. It has worked fine than all of a sudden one day it stopped working. I can turn it on the Cruise light comes on the dash, but wont set. I checked the brake switch and the tubing from the vacuum pump to the canister, I checked all connections, and harnesses and found no faults with the wiring. Any ideas?

Di-Electric the C1,C2,C3,on the firewall mounted PCM. If it's an auto.

I beleive all 305's were 6spds ?????

With out a scan tool it's going to be pretty tough. You may be able to figure it out but it will be time consuming

My 305 hp has an automatic trans. Your right though I think I'm gonna end up taking it in, Im just not getting anywhere.

Please update this after you do. I've noticed once or twice that I had to "cancel" and then "set" to get cruise to take. I'm not sure if I wasn't pressing the button squarely or ?

I decided to start throwing parts at it and lucked out on the first try. I bought a vacuum pump for $195 and installed it the cruise works again.

It's good that you were able to fix your cruise on the first shot. I just have a few easy things for diagnosing a vacuum pump operated cruise. First, the vacuum line will usually rub a hole in it by the fuel filter housing. This is easily fixed with a rubber vacuum hose spliced into the plastic line. One symptom of a vacuum leak is a really noisy vacuum pump that seems to never shut off and can be heard over the radio at idle. So, if you just turn the ignition switch on and the pump is noisy after the grid heater shuts off, you likely have a vacuum leak. If a dealer uses a rubber hose that is slightly too large, the cruise will engage for a second or two or sometimes until the demand for a higher throttle opening is needed - then it will just quit. Then it will "reset" if you cycle the ignition switch. Fixing the splice with a tight piece of hose takes care of the cruise operation and the noisy vacuum pump. What it leaves is a faulty check valve by the pump as it has dirt in it preventing it from closing and keeping the vacuum reservoir "full". Replace the inexpensive check valve and most basic cruise issues on an automatic 3rd gen are repaired for good. Hope this helps.

My "03" 305 AUTOMATIC, was also having problems with the cruise. Just got back from a trip, 55 to 70 mph on cruise. everything worked fine. Darn things sure are a pita:)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the time being.
