I want to replace the plug in the front end of my P-pump with a different one. Is there a way to get the top of the front case out of the way to get the plug out? Or does the pump have to come off?

Pump has to come off. Almost not worth the trouble to gain a few MM's of rack travel. Theres some easier ways to gain HP.

Paul, Latenight6 has fleetguard filters in stock at his place of buisness, if you want to PM him.

You can use a pivitoing strap wrench. its tricky with the A/C lines there but is doable.

If not that, the channel lock oil filter wrench is a nice option, I just wouldnt use it to re-install.

True enough about other ways to get HP. I was talking to Scott about moving my plate forward. He said that was fine, but I might wind up with EGT issues. I bet if I wait until I get a different turbo I can move it forward with impunity. It sounded like he was saying you can change that plug by doing something to the front case, but I didn't quite catch it all. I saw the engine on his race truck. Pretty cool stuff. Single Silver Bullet for a turbo.

not personally but all the trucks here at work use them and in the trucking industry all over. Wouldnt hesitate to use one. .

i use each one no problems. fleetguard is owned by cummins. i used badwin when fleetguard is out of stock but both are good. and i know for a fact that jim runs a badwin fuel filter

Looks like Fleetguard is the way to go. I'm going to watch the oil level for a bit to see if it rises. If it does I guess I'll have to start searching for a leak. Could be I got fuel in there from when the injectors were changed, and I won't gain any more. I believe I'm going to order a Phat Shaft 64 today. Seems like it should be a good one for my power level.

If you got fuel in the oil on the 12 valve, It can come from 2 places. A bad injector, which would be very noticeable, or your injector pump which is oil cooled/lubed. We did notice fuel on the top of the pump in the area of the barrel assembly last friday, remember?

Check out http://blackstone-labs.com/ they do mail order oil analysis for diesels.

There's a thought. If I notice my oil level rising again I'll take a sample and get the scoop.

Jim, do you suppose the DV holder could be giving me my extra oil, or would it be something uglier than that, inside the pump? Can the diaphragm on the lift pump let fuel into the crankcase?

No problem Paul ;)

D/V couldnt get fuel into the oil, barrel assembly probably could if a o-ring were bad... . Lift pump Im not too sure if that could bleed by never had one off yet to inspect...

Oil analysis first so your not running paranoid

blackstone is about $18 but takes a few weeks, prob. go to fleetpride instead.

Well, how abot lift pump and 191's his week, and turbo install next week? The turbo will take a while because the downpipe has to come out. After that it's Dynatrac and EGR brakes. I told you there's no shortage of stuff to do on that beast. If the P pump is bad, would I take it off and send it out to Scheid or someone to get redone?
