Injector Problems

12 Valve in 3rd Gen

This spring I will be stuffing a 98 12v into a 74 IH crew cab. It already has a divorced 205. I will be looking for a 2wd nv 5600 ( preferable with the small input shaft, already have a clutch), anyone got any leads.

Robert,

From your pics it looks as if the trim is ala '93, but the cab has to be between the 80-85 range, but dern if'n I know how to tell 'em apart. There might not be any difference at all...

I do not know what the TDR's exact rules are for advertiseing products on this site. But, I would like to share this with everyone.

If anyone is interested I have A pic from an add that was in A truck race and cycle magazine that i picked up at A gastation A few years back. .

They stretch any vehicle.

The add shows several trucks that were custom jobs from A small company in Elrosa ,Minn.

One of the trucks is a full four door dually dodge , A 2000 model I believe. One Dodge truck has six full sized doors and duals. And there is A six door ext. cab Ferd also. .

I'm going to do A search now for A website for them , if I find it I will post it right away.

79 crew+CTD?

I find this thread very interesting as I have a 79 crew. Bought it with 6 miles on it and parked it in an old potato shed about 14 years a go. It is the Adventure SE with two sun roofs and a custom flatbed. (still have the orginal bed) Loved that ole truck. who ever orginally ordered it beefed it up to a 1ton from the factory with a 5500# front end should take a CTD just fine. only thing I didn't like was the single axle short bed. We used it for everything and went hunting pulling an old 69 Ideal trl, very heavy, hauled 3 wheelers and wood and anything else that would fit. Twisted a crank at about 106K and put in a reman 360. Parked it at about 115K. One of my sons is a mechanic for Cashman(CAT) Equipment and we have on more than one occasion kicked around the idea of a CTD donor for it! I have always been 'tweaked' at Dodge for dropping the crew!!!): Great to see I'am not the only one... .....

Fellas - there will be another crew cab truck up for auction within 2 weeks. It was parked next to the one I just picked up in Boise ID, and I believe it was a 1982 4x4 4-door with a service bed. I just called the folks at the Dept of Land and they said that one will be up for grabs in a couple weeks. Number for the place is in previous post of mine above. Truck looked good and was definitely big and would be a good donor or swap rig. There was also another 4-door, but it was an older body style (pre 1980) so if you want to do an older conversion that'd be a good truck as well. I think they're going to auction that one in a couple weeks as well.

Hope that helps,

- Sam

PS - If you are planning to get one of those I suggest using a big honkin; tow bar to get it back. I fabricated a tow bar to specifically for towing Dodge trucks via tow bar, and if you want to make one I can send good pics, measurements, and list of parts I used to make my tow bar. Was real simple and very effective.

Here's a pic of the tow bar system I used:

Sam, I'd like to take you up on the info you have for the tow bar you used to get that CrewCab. I'm not having any luck finding anyone who would transport a Crew Cab for a 'reasonable' (affordable to me) rate... . they are just too big and heavy. Could you send the info and any pics you may have to: -- email address removed --

Also, what would you consider the minimum size truck to pull one of these Crew Cabs? Could an Expedition do it safely? Also, I assume you pulled the front and rear driveshafts for the tow home?

Thanks!

HS - you bet. I have to go get it again to tow my Ramcharger to get blasted with fertilizer (like sandblasting only lots cleaner). Anyways I'll be using my jig again and I'll post some high-def pics along with the measurements. I'll also try to get a part number for the drawtight tow bar that attaches to it.

For rigs, I hauled that 4-door short box back with my D250 clubber no sweat. Only problem was I didn't have enough weight in the bed of the diesel, so the 4-door was trying to 'push' the back of my diesel around simply due to inertia. Using the tow bar you're really dragging the front end around when you turn or lane change, and going over those 18-wheeler ruts make lane-changing a bit, well, sporty - you definitely have to keep an alert feel of the wheel/road. To counter the effects we put every spare part, tire, anyting we had from both trucks directly over the rear wheels of the diesel and that made a nice difference - made it harder for the towed vehicle to push the rear end of the towing vehicle. My advice, load up with LOTS of heavy stuff in the back of whatever you are using to tow the truck with. If you have a dually I think it's be a lot better.

gonna be a bit longer that anticipated

Well fellas, I decided to fully finish the ole Ramcharger and completely finish that project before I tear into the diesel - so my monster project will probably start in the Summer now verses Spring. I just don't want the RC half done while the diesel is completely torn apart for the year and a half it'll take to build it, when I could take a couple extra months to make the RC really nice. So, the RC will be finished and perfect before I make the first cut on the diesel. Just want to finish this project before the other starts. Besides I'm doing some things to the RC that will be done to the diesel, and I can use the RC as the test bed, mainly for the roll cage and tilt front. Gonna be a fun Summer tho - can't wait!

Tow bar jig

HS, here are the pics of the tow bar jig and the tow bar. I'll post back with the actual dimensions, but you can see that it bolts up just like a front bumper with the same bolts.

The tow bar itself is very beefy (pic #1) - not sure about the part number but it was the biggest one I could find.

The actual tow bar head is also very beefy and bolts onto the tow bar and can go on top or below depending on ride heights (#4).

There is a kit of brackets for attaching the tow bar to the jig (#3) - it's a pair of big brackets that the tow bar swivels up and down on and there is a pic of one of those brackets

I used 1/4" plate steel welded to thick wall 2" square tube, and drilled the holes the same as the bumper brackets (#2). I drilled the holes in everything except the attaching brackets - they came pre-drilled. (#5) is the jig bolted to the front frame of the Ramcharger.

Hope these help. Any questions drop me a line.

thanks Sam... . I've been watching some of the government auctions on these Crew Cabs... they dont give these things away thats for sure. I'm surprised you got that one for $1300! Was it an '85? How about mileage? The two that were listed on govliquidation last week (one in MI the other in PA) went for $3600 and $2550, respectively! And add a 10% Buyers Premium on top of that! They were both non-running as well. They did show low mileage though, and both were '85s.

I just found this...

only prob with that truck is its out in cali! if u notice like posted above the two crew that where in MI and PA they went for big money cause us midwest guys cant get our hands on anything savable! ive been looking at these trucks on that site forever but it would cost more to go out and get them then it would to buy them on the auction site. really bites cause there really nice trucks for a conversion with the cummins in them!! I WANT THEM ALL!!!!!!!! :D

I don't know Mark, the way we drove those things when I was in the Navy 257 might be true, I picked up a 78 crew earlier this year for a conversion, an ex corps of engineers truck, it doesen't have a dash mounted VIN just the sticker on the door which naturally was tore off w/the VOID exposed, played hell at the dmv w/that one, it's a 9kgvw 200 utiline which is a problem since I just spent 800 bucks having the donor trucks dually 3. 07 rear rebuilt incl. a NOS r/p inst. and it won't fit w/out bed and fender surgery will probably be looking to trade it off for a SRW 3. 07 then there's the 727/435 problem would like to keep the truck a stick but have heard nothing good about the getrag and the 4500/5600 swaps seem so $$$. existing dana 60 w/354's might work I'd never tow anything over 7000# maybe it would last, the donor truck(89 CTD C/C 159"w/b) weighed 7200 the crew is 4900 w/318 probably be 5400 w/ cummins in it so the 60 might live... . probably not.

If you don't drive like an idiot it'll live;):D Me, I have two speeds GO and STOP :-laf.

Seriously, If you don't lug the motor it'll be fine. As long as you are not greatly exeeding the weight rating of the truck it should live a fairly long life. the 3. 54's would help alot though. Tall ratios are less resistant to torque.

ATS is building a standalone VB and Controller for the 47re that will allow you to use a modern transmission in anything. The controller has a windows interface (using a laptop). I'm converting my '01 HO to an auto using a fully built ATS and their controller. I can't wait. it should be here in about 2 weeks.

Which one... the '69 or the '85. I favor the older ones. The '69 is gonna be rigged for a daily hauler.

Thanks,

Mark
