I remember the Travelall and the Scout and pickup, but I can't recall when, if ever, I saw a Travelette. I had to Google it . What's the wheelbase on one? Your Dodge there is 165". Did IHC make duallys as well? Shadrach

166"! They produced duallys but never a dually bed. They either had flatbeds or a utility bed of some kind. My T'ette is a 74 3/4 ton, which was the first year they used IFS. The 1 tons were straight axle

One of the reasons I want to stick with a 1st gen Dodge crew cab is because it's different. You definitely got me beat with this one. Are you planning on leaving it stock looking inside and out? Shadrach

I like the 1st gen dodges as well. Other than the fabed dually fenders and paint color the plan is to keep it as original looking as possible.

Hopefully the Dodge purist here won’t curse me .

Dang you! Dang you all to heck!!

:-laf:-laf:-laf:D

I like my old Dodges but the main thing is it will have a CUMMINS in it. Be flexible in your plans. Be patient. Be realaistic and allow more $$$$ than planned.

Shadrach

Yup. I agree. I am one of the most hardcore Dodge people but I swapped my motor too for a Cummins. Cant beat them.

Also agreed. Take your time and Do allow more $$$ than expected. Like double!;)

Update on my crew. 9 weeks from finishing. Ran into problems. Started bolting on exterior items (mirrors, taillights, etc) and the paint cracked open! It appears the painter used too much hardener and all of the paint is chipping off left right and center; and anywhere the paint flexes, it shatters like glass! You just bump or even look at a panel the wrong way and the paint just lets go all the way to the primer!

Looks like might need to re strip the body and he will have to repaint! :(

Some days... ... :(

Hello all, been away for a long time and need some info. First I have a '85 D250 crew short with cast iron case transfer etc. and a '85 D350 crew long bed that I want to convert to cummins, four wheel drive and auto. transmission. Is it possible to connect a 618 auto to a cast case transfer? Do any of you pull trailers with your auto's. Year's ago I tried towing with the 618 and would boil the oil in the transmission oil in spite of the added coolers. Any help would be nice. LMcCary

Some times my memory fads on the early overdrive trans numbers. But it approx. a 1994 or 1995 auto overdrive from behind a Cummins. It was ok until heavily loaded.

Front bucket seats?

I want to use 2 sets of buckets and consoles in my crew. The rear is no problem as the back floor is the same as the front of the std cab and club cabs. The front floor is flat so I can't use the risers from a club cab or Ramcharger. Today I played around with seats and risers for a 99 Dodge Ram van. The van uses a flat floor but the distance from floor to the headliner is approx 51. 5" The front of my crew is only 48". The van riser is 3" taller. If you are over 5'10" you wouldn't fit. You can swap van seats onto truck risers, and visa versa, but you must use the matching risers and tracks/sliders as the van risers have a narrower bolt pattern where the seat meets the riser. I also want to be able to adjust all 4 seats forward and back. The passenger bucket in a club or Ramcharger doesn't slide. I will have to use a drivers track on the passenger seats in order to do this. In a crew there is not much point have a right front seat that flips forward.

The front seat is a 88 Ramcharger bucket on the 99 van riser. You can see how tall it is. The rear is a 99 van bucket on a 88 Ram riser. Other than the fact I used a RH seat on the left side of the truck it fits fine. It even fits the holes in the floor. I will need the slider track so I have enough clearance with the back window, as these seats, and truck ones also, recline. It's nice to have a "cut-a-way" cab.

</a>

BTW If anyone wants to put a front bench from a club can into the front of a crew you must use the crew riser as not only is the angle different, flat floor as opposed to slanted, but the bolt pattern is off just enough so it won't fit.

Has anyone found a shorter riser ( 6" as opposed to the 9" van ones ) that will fit a flat floor? Perhaps from an older Ram van?

Shadrach - I went a different way. For the front I got two power seat frames off of a 2nd gen Ram and used that.

In the end I did not even stay with that style though! Found a wrecked 300 in the junk yard..... :D:D:D Back seat will remain the old front bench. :)

Love that cab just sitting there! I gather you made use of the firewall?

Still have not figgured out why your cab looks like it has more room than mine?????

EDIT - Just figgured it out. Front seat needs to be slid back about 8". That floor rib needs to be almost center of the front seat.

The firewall was cut off because it was rusted at the drivers floor. This cab and frame are the basis of my "new" crew cab. I am going to cut the entire cowl off of one of our parts trucks ( a 92 D350 CTD, that had a 5 speed ) and use it with this crew shell. It will be spliced in the middle of the windshield posts and at the factory seam just in front of the front seat. That way I get the correct firewall holes, as discussed earlier in this thread. I will also use the dash, so that I will be able to register it as a 92 D350. The dash VIN will match the last 8 digits stamped on the cowl. I don't expect any problems here in Alberta.

The rib on the floor has the holes in it for the rear mounting studs of the front bench. I will wait til the steering coloum and dash are in before mounting the seat premanatly. I just took the picture for fun.

No you can't have the drip rail moulding.

This is the cab that I will be cutting up to get my " diesel firewall ". My buddy bought it as a parts truck. I stripped off the front sheet metal. Some of those parts will be used to fix his 93 W350. Shadrach

This is my main donor truck. It is a 92 D250 and I will use the front clip, box, doors, diff, fuel tank and most of the interior. I don't want to cut up this cab as it is good while the other one has some cancer. I bought this one from a customer who bought it complete and running, then took out the CTD and put it in his F*erd F450. My crew will be white with a grey interior. The dually club had the 4 point camper mirrors and was a std, both of which I want, but has a bench seat. The white club was an auto, but it has buckets. Some parts from here, some from there. Quick question: Does anyone still have the factory rear seat installed on their crew? I need two measurments off it if someone is willing to do so!
