Now what? Paid almost $1000 today for the new 250 HP ECM for my '99 2500 and cannot tell any difference during the 400 mile drive home. Wonder if I get my money back? Anybody had any experience with this?

To bad that did not work out. I imagine having Cummins on your side when you hot rod was the attractive part of it.

Take it back, call DD and get the stage III kit with boost module. For about the same money, I assure you that you will feel the difference. (Contact HVAC for more on that)

If you are going 'stealth', get the VA CPC from one if the many sources. You will feel (and hear) the difference. This is not the be all, end all of performance but it is a good starting point as it helps the engine timing among other things. I own one and like it.

The VA + 275 injectors + boost module is another good combo.
The VA + DDstageI injectors + boost module is another good combo plus the part numbers on the DDI's are the same as stock.

If you want more, I'm told the new bluechip box has fuel and boost enhancements. But not the timing advantages of the VA. The two together are supposed to be fantastic.

There are many such products and you can find mention of them throughout the TDR.

If you go nuts, don't forget to build in ways to remove heat from the exhaust. See Ted J's thread for proper order of upgrading an ISB. Good ideas there.

I have the 275hp injectors and the Cummins ECM. Chose the Cummins ECM for the reason David mentioned, having a Cummins-rated/EPA upgrade. I also have JRE's 4-inch exhaust, but haven't installed it yet. Oh, and a K&N air filter. I figured these products together would provide a factory-rated fueling increase along with the extra air/boost to burn it. So much for theory. Now, what are my impressions.

1) The injectors made a noticable increase in acceleration, particularly in the 40-60mph range where I find that I can pass folks easier when I'm putzing behind someone doing 45mph. I think they increased my fuel mileage by 1mpg.

2) The ECM augmented the injectors. I can get zooming pretty well now, but no, I'm not pressed against the seat by any means. It also seems to have steadied the idle rpms. No change in mileage.

I would definitely say that the $1k for the ECM was not well spent in terms of power/$. However, I've already had the VP44 replaced at 12k under warranty, and I wanted to error on the conservative side.

At this point, I'll install the JRE exhaust and Scott's new air system. After that I might go for the VA CPC since I like the fact that it un-retards the timing.

So let's see:

Injectors: $500
Exhaust: $750
ECM: $900
K&N: $ 65
VA CPC $800
Psychotty: $???

Not to mention all the Amsoil lubricant...

So about $3,000. Yeah, I like my truck better all the time, and these improvements have or will add to that enjoyment. But if it was just the performance increase that turned my crank I'd be disappointed overall. But the fact that I'm banging around under the hood and have learned a lot about this rig has really been at least half the enjoyment. So I'm willing to chalk half of the dollars up to personal enrichment.

But if my wife realizes I've spent all this I'd not be able to defend myself on either account. So that's about it for the performance enhancements.

So I'm happy with the ECM, but obviously I've done a bit of rationalizing to get there.

Sport bike,
Looks like you've tried them all. In your opinion, which box is better; the Powermax2 or the BlueBox 4 wire?
Thanks,
Russ

Russ, I don't think the 4-wire Blue Box will have any trouble exceeding the power delivery of the PM2. My BB(3wire) puts out 100 hp at the wheels. I think SB dynoed the PM2 at about 50 hp.
