Well thanks for the information everyone. I thought that whole "buy back" issue was BS from the start. And I still think the new Dodge 3500 is the best looking truck on the road, with the most durable drivetrain, ... but ...
I ordered an '05 Sierra 3500 crew cab 4x4. I think these two trucks are close to equal, overall, with some features better on one truck, and some features better on the other (I've owned both). The difference for me was cost, and nothing more than that. I went to the GMC dealer first, and got a price for my trade in, and a quote of $4500 off retail on the '05 GMC. I then went to the Dodge dealer, and he offered me $1000 less for my trade in, and wanted full list price for his '05 truck, "because he was giving me such a good price for my trade in", even though he knew the price the GMC dealer had quoted me. So even without any rebates that may or may not be available when the truck shows up, that is a $5500 better deal on the GMC. Considering that I only keep a truck for about 36,000 miles, I didn't think the Cummins "reliability" was worth the extra $5500 over the Duramax. In two to three years I will be shopping again, maybe the tables will be turned next time around.
Thanks again for all of your responses.
