Update of Repair
The second dealership found the problem, I am told. It has yet to make the trip "home".
The wire harness was at fault. The plug-in to the VP-44 had a bad prong. The pump would looses consciousness. No codes would be detected. The engine was almost undrivable. So much for setting codes.
The dealership used a go/no go gauge on the plug to locate the problem.
