How big will the fine be?

toyota landcruiser diesels

I was on a job site yesterday and started a conversation with a guy who drives a 7. 3 PS about how he likes it. He said its been a good truck but will get the Dodge/Cummins next time. He has a friend with one and it is better all around in his opinion. Compared to the 6. 0 that is.

I asked about the Chevy option and he said " no way". His neighbor and very good friend has one and it has had several head gaskets replaced. It does have over 100,000 miles now and he is not happy that it may be his $$$ next time. The thing that makes his friend upset is the down time.

I asked if he could get a VIN on this truck and he gave me a real puzzled look!! I explained about the topics here and on other sites and he said, sure I can get a vin if people are that anal.

My horse shoer drives a '97 powerstroke auto and has around 250k miles. He's had transmission problems, but has it fixed now. On the motor itself, it's been bolt on things like starters, alternaters, vacuum pumps, etc. He has always been a ford guy and will buy again. My bro-in-law drives ford psd's and has always had good trucks. Little problems under waranty and that's about it. I've got him convinced to hold off on buying a 6. 0 for a couple years. My dad and brother drive GM's and have had minimal problems. A good friend drives an 01 GMC D/A. He only has about 40k on it and it runs like a champ. The motor and transmission handle loads way better than any stock CTD I've ever seen. Yes it runs higher RPM's, but it's push button. Step on the go pedal it goes, step on the brakes, it stops. We'll see how it does on longevity, but other than that, it's an impressive truck. It's hard to say which is best standing new on the lot, but I do really like my CTD and wouldn't hesitate to buy a new one. Other than the new 6. 0, there are likely 10 success stories to one bad story.

tpc,

let me tell you what it means to be a success story in the diesel world:

1. have thousands of engines make it to 1+ million miles

2. live for 400,000+ in a way overloaded dusty environment

3. hold 500hp and be able to tow heavy at low EGT's for 300,000 with the stock bottom and top end

4. live in marine applications for 30,000 hrs

5. hold the land speed world record:cool:

shall i continue

if motor blow up at 2000 miles at 100,000 crankcase fills with diesel etc. you have not made it.

the 12v and 24v 2nd gen and the newer 7. 3 are the only proven diesel engines verdict is still out on the 3rd gen cummins

remember they are just about had the powerstroke bugs worked out before they changed over and what was that 10 years?

a few years ago i bought a 98 GMC k3500, i had nothing but problems from loose body and dash panels, to transmission and electrical problems, but my problems were all finally solved around 50k miles when the engine compartment caught fire while driving down I35 due to a manufactures defect and burned the whole cab by the time the hosers arrived... ... .

When I first started looking at bigger trucks, I steered away from Chev/GMC due to 4x4 issues. Front left, Right rear would just spin away. The looks were the other big issue.

i have buddies that would not even spit on a dodge. now they drool all over my truck and many of them are making plans to buy one. thumbs up DC you are winning market share at least in my part of the country. had one buddy who has always owned furd but he bought a new duramax for the simple fact his buddy who works at the furd dealer told him the new motors are junk. so he went the chevy route. he still cant stand the thought of buying a dodge but he does love the cummins. he was in the coast guard and he said that is all they ran in their boats. i hope he has good luck with his new duramax. we will see. he paid 36K+ and he did not even get a 4 door to boot it had a huge dent and scratch on the side which will have to be replaced(entire quarter panel)

Being a Chevy man I didn't like the Duracarp I had a friend who had 3-4,000,000 on five different Cummins. That made it hard to resist. I am happy with the truck as a whole so far. Mileage is great. I liked the interior of the 01 3500 better than 02 Chevy. My truck was made in St. Louis otherwisw I probably would not have bought it.
