thinkin about doin the conversion...

How long is the 518/618Auto? 727?

im currious if there is a way to get a 24 valve into a 99 jeep tj?i know there would be a lotta work involved... ... ... . i want the low end torque, without having the big cubes. i know the 4-link would have the be beefed up. swap in a transmission and t-case. i just want to know how hard it would be... . of if it is even worth trying:--)

Have you seen my thread? I'm putting a 24v with a p-pump into my S10. .

I think the 950lb motor would be way too much for a jeep. You'll lose all the benefits of having a short wheelbase and good balance. My truck's wheelbase is 125" and will weigh 6000lbs when done.

check it out. . just a few posts above. . or below depending on if I get any replies ;)

i do not believe a 9" rear will hold up in the rear.

a minimum dana 70 or 14 bolt.

dodge only puts a dana 80 in the back

I'll second that on the axles. You'd better rethink the 9" axle. You'd be better off putting a 60 or bigger in it. Front & rear.

Go big the first time or you'll be breaking all kinds of stuff. What kind of t-case you going to run? Are you stretching the wheelbase any?

Drivetrain length is a major consideraion. By the time you do the engine, NV4500 or auto, and the required huge transfer case you would have the rear output past the rear diff!

Anything is possible, but a 6B is just not feasible or needed. Like was said, you would ruin the vehicles balance and the cost would be astronomical if done correctly.

Throw an Atlas 4. 3 in there and you will have all the torque you need.

I'd say mine is going to cost under 10g's with the axle swap included. But I've got access to more tools than most people. . I work at a fab shop.

That is very cheap. I don't want to know what I have in my Land Cruiser. Custom reverse cut Dana 60 axles, Atlas tcase, 4 link with coilovers, 42" super swampers/beadlocks, 350 tbi motor, built TH400 etc... . ,

I put a 12V in my IH scout. The 9" rear should be fine. My D44 has been holding up. You need 36" from radiator to fire wall for a 12V.

The 24V in the TJ will be tight. Drivetrain length will be a major problem. My truck is not here or I would measure the engine and check it against my TJ. I would be more concerned with the weight distribution. The weight of the motor would make it awefully front end heavy. Though, my TJ weighs in at a little over 4000#. I think a better option would be going with a 4b. It would be shorter and easier to fit. Also, with a little bombing, it would outdo the hp and torque of the 6 cylinder. Axles are a nother thing to worry about. If you are gentle on the gas, the 9" will survive. If you are the type of person that is heavy on the gas, plan on replacing it and upgrading the front as well. Just some random thoughts.

TBaker,

That is an interesting and beautiful addition to the Scout.

Can you say SHOE HORN? :--)

Now you have me thing about stuffing one into my 47 Studebaker;)

Looks like it might fit.

Good job and I'll keep my eyes open for the noisy scout next time I'm down at the Boardwalk.

1000 lbs plus in a TJ?

Sounds darned unstable to me. Nothing in the TJ is ment to handle that much power. A P-pumped 4BT, @ 750 lbs is pushing it, but would be an awesome conversion. What would ya do with it? Primarily on road? Off? :--)

trade the 6bt for a 4bt and do the swap, i've seen one in a 47 cj2a,a early cj5 and wrangler.

i'm putting one in my 76 cj5.

i took some measurements tonight ,from the front of the belt pully on the crank to the center of the yoke on back of the transfer case.

304/t19 d20=60. 5".

4bt/3052/d300=59. 25".

the spiecer 3052 five speed is 15" long by itself, but this combination is still 1. 25" shorter than what i have now.

then a year from now you won't be thinking i wish i would of

put that diesel in.

good luck which ever way you go.

Not to rain on anyone parade... . While I love diesels, I would not have one in my off road rig. I like to go wheeling and like the idea of having a quiet rig. I don't have a radio because I listen to nature when I go 4 wheeling. I've been behind some carburated motors and when they run rich, your eyes will be watering. I don't want to be the guy sitting behind a guy in a diesel offroad rig. With proper gearing (Atlas transfer case 3. 8:1) and 4. 88 in the diffs, you really don't need to torque of a diesel. IMHO, gearing is more important than what motor you run. Many of the rock crawling competition rigs run 4 cylinders.
