Speculation is that it might be the HO engine and not the whole 6.7's. Will have to wait till next month to find out for sure. Yes, it seems to be another attack on the diesel engine market! Seem so strange that the EU has a primary of diesel powered vehicles and the exact opposite here in the USA. Yet the more emission related equipment on diesels let alone gasoline engines is killing them! Seems to be the next "big" push to EV which is funny that the Maine vote is delayed with the 400K+ power outages that have been multiple days! May need to rethink these EV pushes as lives depend on getting out and electric may not be available! The Government may need bigger generators to run charging stations!!!!!!!!!!!![]()
I feel the need rant too... and I totally agree it is a direct attack on the diesel engine market!
I have the same feelings. Something ain't right and I feel like I have a tinfoil hat on sometimes, but as times goes on... well, gee, I guess my predictions were correct. Not as crazy as I thought.
Where I live, out in the country, I lost power at least 10x a year mostly during the hot summer months and really cold months. On top of that, everything we got is SWER (single wire earth return) and it's not designed for the high electrical load. This past summer we lost power for an entire day only because a SWER line literally melted and dropped across a roadway. I felt guilty for running my air conditioning after that. Then I hear the same thing, that we will be experiencing more power outages and grid loss. So yeah, the government will buy large diesel gensets to match it right?!
EV is not the answer to anything. If anything, we need to get off the dependence of electricity and balance it out with other natural resources. I'm trying my best not to run stuff off electricity, that includes solar. I don't like electric other than for lighting.
My furnace crapped out on me earlier this year, and my local HVAC guy said NO to heat pumps with supplement electric heat. He said I would not like it and it would cost me more. He was able to get me hooked up with a nice dual burner 100k BTU propane furnace, with a R-410a A/C unit. Last year to get the R-410a units, before the flammable and less efficient R-32 and R-454B refrigerants take over.
Then on top of that, my last electric statement was $0.25 KWh (included delivery, taxes, usage, etc). I don't hardly use any electricity and my electric bill keeps jumping up and up, while I see my propane bill going down, down, down. Oh, and let's not forget my diesel truck. Since the prices have been steadily dropping, I'm saving money now driving a diesel versus a gasser.
I do small talk when filling up my truck with other diesel owners, and most of them feel the same way. So I know I'm not going nuts.
Driving, cooking, and home/business heating need to run off bio fuels (including wood) and fossil fuels. Other stuff can be electric.
Furthermore, the diesel engine is truthfully the only way forward that makes sense, not only on paper, but in real life.
