Has anyone removed their Cummins Intake Silencer ??

I did on my 2010, and am considering removing it from my 2020.

having all that plastic up wind of the turbo makes me nervous.

The idea of the plastic getting brittle and pieces flying into the turbo gives me the willies!

Thanks
L

i did on my 18 2500. nothing to notice but exhaust brake is slightly louder. i also did not like the idea of that foam and plastic winding up in the turbo...cheers! :)

I wouldn't bother. I pulled in on my 2006 in 2012 and everything was fine. The foam wasn't even showing any signs of deterioration. Besides reducing the noise it also helps the air flow making it a straighter shot into the turbo. If I was to do anything I would remove the foam and put the veins back in.

I wouldn't do it prior to the power train warranty expiring. Don't want to give FCA any reason to try and deny a claim.

how could they prove it didn’t get excluded in the build process?

that would be hard to prove and deny warranty!

since I have an 8 year warranty, if pieces of it damage the turbo it’s on their dollar

They could claim that there build spec requires it. They have engineering drawings that show it. They probably wouldn't but why risk it?

For me I am not even touching anything.... But I can understand that some here just cant help but want to change things as many of us did so many mods on the older 2cnd and 3rd gen trucks... 8Y/125K warranty for me so if it grenades... I get a new one. I have not even looked at it to be honest, only checking fluids and change them per the OM for the next 8y :D After all why would I spend the equivalent to a new house on a truck to take it directly home and start modifying it...Working on the truck is the primary reason I got rid of it, I want to spend that time on VAC or playing with toys.

Air “straighten-er”. Reduces turbulence. Very big deal for turbo efficiency. See “boundary layer” as discussion fodder.

It matters less with a T-C at constant rpm. Wide variance (like ours) you’ll burn more fuel and receive less from each BTU.

It'll never happen. ;-)>

I mean these guys at Cummins do VERY sophisticated analysis of these systems. Now making things "work" is a whole other thing, but they definitely understand what is happening in a turbocharger to the nth degree and are considering effects of heat, flow, boundary layers, materials etc. These dudes are smart. They might have a pocket protector full of pens in their white shirt pocket, IDK. Although I see this Aerodynamics group is over in England, so now I am wondering...having previously owned an MG.

I had a 2002 and installed a Cummins accessory oil return for the road draft tube. Dodge denied a leaking front crankshaft seal because of the installation. They WILL look for ANYTHING to deny a claim.

I pulled mine on my 06 along with the silencer ring and I had this honeycomb insert that fit in the intake right at the turbo that created a laminar flow.... TAG "Turbo Air Guide" it was. The hose was a "Cool Hose" brand.
