engine removal from a ford van diesel

Voltage questions

Heard this at a job site today. From what I understand the EPA is driving Cummins to give up on the pickup market by 2015. Anybody else heard anything like this ?. I would not doubt it as the EPA has their nose stuck in everything.

Considering that Cummins just built an engine for the 1/2 ton Titan and it has yet to hit the streets I highly doubt that is true.

Don't know what is considered small but the Ford F 650 and 750 have a Cummins and Allison trans combo that looks pretty good.

Cat stopped the OTR engines a while back, now maybe Cummins smaller diesels maybe not worth the effort of dealing with up coming emissions. So I understand emissions is what it is all about.

Dave

I thought that I had read however that the new SCR engines meet EPA standards for quite a few more years. Maybe I misunderstood.

I've driven quite a few with that combo. Not bad at all.

I drove one this afternoon, looking good to ME!!!!! have a bunch of different HP and Allison Trans options. SOLID AS A ROCK I intentionally went to the part of town that has lots of RR crossings and it took them very well.

Bare chassis or a body on it?

Bare chassis or a body on it?

Bare Chassis I have some ideas that im kicking around with it.

Sleeper, tow-body or maybe just an aluminium deck with some Pro Tec boxes hung underneath to store things.

After reading this again it will have a cab, just no box, bed, deck

My neighbor down the road has an F650 regular cab with a hauler bed on it (CM) I believe to pull his trailer. Really, really nice truck.

Im not really sure about the hauler or tow bed thing this is something that I have seen around the area pulling horses and livestock only with a Ford F 650 or 750 nice rigs kind of leaning toward the flat deck with a headache rack in back of the cab to lash down feed and an extra fuel tank wouldn't hurt, I hate to stop

This should help you at the job site about the Cummins engines were they state that the meet Tier 4 final and EU stage IV emissions for 2014.

http://cumminsengines.com/tier-4-final

Cummins has released a new V8 Diesel engine for production for the MY 2105 to be built in the Nissan trucks. The 1500 Ram gets a European diesel engine for 2014 and up.

There are no more upcoming standards for trucks. The upcoming standards are for GHG reduction, which is government speak for fuel economy improvements.

Cat exited the OTR market because their ACERT engine was a disaster. Cummins was on the forefront by meeting the 2010 standards 3 years ahead of schedule- I doubt they'd give up now, especially since there are no more standards coming down the road. I wonder if this rumor was started by a disgruntled Ford owner whose 6.7 is in the shop for new heads and valves.

Funny you mention that. He does own a 6.0 ford that he said is junk and is in the repair shop AGAIN. Guess it has spent most of it's life there. He mentioned he wants a larger vehicle, 550 or larger etc. with a Cummins or Cat as the V8 diesel is high revving and junk. He tows a 38' toy hauler and said fully loaded he is 16-18k. He does realize the torque of a straight six at lower RPM's than the V8. He is not going to find anything with a Cat unless he goes back a few years so a Cummins is probably in his future whether in a Dodge or a Ford. Next time I see him I will ask where the story came from (Probably the Ford mechanic he has been sending Christmas cards to).

I heard this also but found it not to be exactly true, they still build On road motors, but not like they used to be.
