Water and bio-sludge should have stopped at the fuel filter, this alone shouldn't be voiding your warranty unless you ran it until it wouldn't run anymore.

I'm thinking the original poster was just trying to troll up some reactions. I've never heard of this happening unless a person would neglect the water in fuel sensor / light and just ran the truck until it stopped. There are some sick people that just don't care about their trucks like we do.

Which is probably why dodge altered the software to throw another code if the WIF light is on for more than 500 miles...

Had a friend with a '06 on a hunting trip in Canada last year. Truck quit, towed to dealer. Contaminated fuel, required complete new system, voided warranty. Cost him $7000 to get the truck out of the dealer.

Seems these filters don't always stop water from passing.

I doubt someone would pay for membership since 2003, only post 2 times, and be "trolling" with his 2nd post in 5 years. Maybe just likes to read and research more than "speak"

Anywho, I have definately heard of the dealer denying warranty repair due to faulty fuel and I personally have no problem with that. That is the way it should be. It is not Dodge's responsibilty to pay for factors "outside" of design and quality elements. Bad fuel really isn't any different than if you have an accident, not Dodge's doing at all. The responsibility would be on the source of the bad fuel.

I know of someone who recently went through this and the station with the bad fuel paid for several thousand dollars worth of repairs for their CTD. It is the suppliers doing, not the Dodge or the dealers.

To the original poster, hopefully you have a receipt and fuel sample from the related "fill". Both will be insrumental in proving responsibility on the fuel station. Dodge should not be your concern, you need to concern yourself with informing the fuel station and covering your basis should they deny responsibility. The fuel sample from your truck would be paramout in this regards.

Comprehensive insurance would also cover it I believe. Someone on this board posted about his insurance paying up, but I can't remember who it was...

Has anyone EVER had their water in fuel light come on with a legit water in fuel issues. Many many posts about voided warrantys and water, crud in fuel with NEVER a warning! Any one that has a harmed injection system because of water/crud in fuel and NO WARNING light should NOT be respondable for damage. Chrysler should repair these and make darn sure the WIF WORKS!! How about a POLL of anyone SEEING their WIF lights coming on.

DPKetchum's got a good point.

It would be an interesting experiment to fill the fuel bowl with water and see if the light comes on. But I'm not going to do it.

rbattle. Is there a checkout for the WIF light? Amazing how some have had these $5 to $8k repairs on the fuel system but never any mention of checking WHY the WIF warning NEVER came on. Has anyone had theirs come on?

Exactly! That is a very good point. On my 95 the only time the WIF came on was when the sensor was faulty.

I agree. What is the filter for if Dodge denies warranty because of bad fuel. But then, I drive a 12 valve. They are not as sensitive.

Interesting topic indeed, but the original poster didn't say water in fuel, just bad fuel. Hopefully he will chime in with more information.

I suppose their could be other issues than water in bad fuel?
