Cummins Rams - Evil Death Machines

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

Bought an Isuzu Diesel PUP - What do I do first?

Laugh is on me - VP44? - K.I.S.S.

"Diesel engines can use more fuel idling than moving a vehicle - as much as four times more (see this study on school buses in Los Angeles, and also this EPA study with similar findings). Besides contributing to global warming, diesel engine emissions can cause a host of health problems: asthma attacks, impaired lung function, heart problems, and even death. "

Green news story which I take as comletely true. Think about it... a diesel truck drives by and people fall over dead in its wake. Scary!!!

And idling a diesel consumes 4 times as much fuel as motoring down the road in the same vehicle??? No wonder the trip computer says 0 mpg when not moving. This author, Mel Peffers, she looks like the kind of person who knows what shes talking about. (Although she could be a guy... I can't tell by the name or the photo) Its amazing how efficient the diesel is... using more fuel under load than at idle. Its efficiency increases as rpm's and load increase.

I'm buying a Honda Hybrid. I've seen enough. Its all right here...

It's not been that long ago that someone tested that very theory. What they found out is that the Cummins engine used ~1 quart of diesel to idle for 1 hour.

I would think that if my engine was using 1 gallon per hour to idle, that sucker would at least warm itself in the cold weather. :-laf

You guys should read the articles this persons referances, I could write a more acurate article with my eyes closed. All they referance is the emmisions released while idling, and nothing about the amount of fuel used idleing vs moving. What a boner head.

Go buy your honda hybridand when you have a accident and the battery explodes then you will think twice about your diesel truck :)if your alive that is .

I swear I Think I saw a honda hybrid pushing a motor home down the interstate doing about 65 mph ... or was it being pulled? lol If it is loud, stinks, or smokes I've gotta have it. I feel the roads will be much safer soon.

Way way out there!

Ncostello, You should always consider the source of any information before you embrace it as fact.

ok so if a cummins uses a quart of fuel per hour idling which is 4 times what it uses running down the road, lets say 55 mph as that's a good middling speed, ill use whatever speed i want as they fail to specify and have skewed the numbers to their favor so ill take the same liberty, so if a half pint gets me one hour of driving at 55 mph i am getting around 880 mpg at 30 gallon fill up's or something beyond 26k miles before the fuel light comes on (29-30 gallons down in my truck), i guess i may be able to get 30k per tank if i push the light and go easy on the smoke :-laf damn i think theres something wrong with my truck, my mileage sucks azz #ad

I Guess with all the pollution from fossil fuels, a nuclear powered truck would probably be a clean choice except for the contamainated water used to cool the reactor, which could probably go 10 or more years before it needed service,Nuclear power may be re-considered one day as a safe power source considering the price of fuel etc. Plus a peice of plutoniumthe sice of a sugar cube could give you 500 hp continous duty cycle for 10 years or more ... . Scary.

Give Me A Break!

NCostello, and I'm no relation to him, thank the Lord; is welcome to his opinion even though I think his opinion is full of hog wash, or at least way off base. Your more likely to be killed being in a car accident than dying from diesel fumes or anything else I think.

Green people are overly cautious about everything and remind me of chicken little and the sky falling. Get a life, buy your Honda and support the economy of those who live overseas. You say my Honda is made in the USA, well it might be but the profits still go back overseas and I won't get into that here.

I bet he buys CITGO Gas also because that monkey President gives it away free and is supported and loved by the Kennedy clan of Massachusetts.

Jeez oh petes! I say Merry Christmas to all, Green people say Happy Holidays!

I guess I'm the only one who can detect the sarcasm in the first post. I think Ncostello is being entirely satirical about how ludicrous the "green movement" can be.

Probably has no intention of buying a hybrid.

It just amazes me that the moment somone puts words into print, such as newspapers. Some people jump on it as if it were the gospel truth. All I can say is there is no substitute for good "COMMON SENSE"

Please note these people always use data from old Diesels to prove their points when the current versions since 1990 have emissions far below the proposed statements. Those of us with Asthma really do notice the difference. I chose the newer Cummins and VW diesels as they emit far less irritating exhaust than the similar gas engines. Have you ever had to walk to the bus stop on a winter morning, then you would know the truth about these inaccurate statements. While data and figures may not lie, you do have to research what data was used to support their conclusions. For those of us who have chronic asthma the "Acid" test is a cold winter morning walk to a local bus stop.

Our beloved Cummins engine has been one of the least offenders since its inception into the Dodge line up (unmodified or stock) the Detroit Engines are/were some of the worst offenders. The new unleaded gas engines make me throw up when they are running cold.

So all I can say is check all the data, please do not except a report, just because it is/was written by an expert. (Expert = drip under pressure)
