I have a number of questions here about a few different types of springs.

1. what is a 4k GSK (i assume its a govner spring kit?) is this a up grade from the 366? one thread on a different site made it sound as if it involved replacing a number of different springs in the injector pump, i think it was 3 springs. what is this?

2. i have found a lot of differnt types of valve springs. some say 60lbs, some say 5000rpm, 4000rpm, and 3000rpm. ive heard that the 60lb are the ones, but what is there a difference in the 60lbs and the 3000rpm springs? will new valve springs change the perfomance of the engine under 3200rpms???

3. when i get new valve springs should i get new TITANIUM VALVE SPRING RETAINERS & HARDENED KEEPERS? ive seen this listed as a good thing to get with the HD valve springs, on the perfomance websites. PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS

thanks for you time and for reading this yall, any help is greatly apreciated.

You are mixing springs and pumps here thats why it is confusing. ;)

The 3k & 4k GSK are governor spring kits for the P7100 pump.

There are 6 springs in these kits, one for each cylinder in the P pump.

The 366 spring is for the VE and is a single spring.

The 60 lb springs are valve springs to keep from floating the valves when you spin the motors over 3k and start pushing 40 psi of boost. You would also need these springs if you are running an EB to keep the valves closed.

Do you need the hardened keepers and all that? More a matter of personal choice and how hard you are going to run it, but, in for a penny in for a pound I say. :)

Some people have discussed a durability issue with the Titanium retainers in a daily driver. The 366 spring is a good upgrade as well as the 60# valve springs. As for a performance increase from the valve springs you probably will not notice anything unless your old ones are getting weak.

cerberusiam, I am NOT an Expert on this, However I have stayed at a Holiday Inn once and watched & helped out the 12 Valve guys at Coffee Nights.

There are six springs of 3 different designs that go between the Govenor Fly Weights and the Spool. They do not go under the DVs!

More an attempt to define the difference between spring or springs and what pump is being referenced. :)

ahh!! yes now it all makes sense. thank yall so much. i have a 366 just havnt slapped it in yet. where is the best place to get a good set of 60lb valve springs?? what type of issues are you refereing too TWorline?? if i get in there to do the springs im gonna want to probly go the whole distance and replace the retainers and whatever else maybe worn. so it would help to know exactly what may need replaceing, and what to use. thanks again guys.

awesome! thanks:D oh and by the way... im getting much closer to getting a set of cooler tubz from you, especially after i put in the 366 and crank up my fuel. ill be doing as much as possible to lower egts. '

thanks yall!

great! thanks, i will definatly let you know. as soon as i graduate here in a month or less, ill start work full time again... that means, steady paycheck, no school to do after work, so ill be workin on the truck a lot more :D

I just threw my stock retainers on my 60lb springs. It's not like I run above 3k all the time. Just when I'm driving. ;) :D

Replacing the keepers might be a good idea, retainers? JMO.

If you really wanna pee away some money, I'll give you a list of stuff to buy. Just send it here, and I'll take care of it. :D

Oh no, I don't want the truck. I just want you to buy some nice go fast parts. Don't worry about what they are going on. ;) :D

alrighty pete. list em off big daddy. i got the card ready. let the money wasting begin! :D :-laf

kidding here, but what else do you suggest??

hhhaha... one of my best friends is a die hard ford man. he's had a triton V10, a 2001 7. 3 psd, a 1994 7. 3 psd, and he just bought a 2004 6. 0 psd. we cut off the exhaust right under the cab, no cat, no muffler. GOOD LORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that gosh dang VG Turbo is the strangest thing ive ever herd. when you first start it up it sounds real deap and throaty like an old boat motor, for like 4 seconds, then it instantly from rwarwarwarwarwa to wiiiizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. i was driving it the other day, he came over to the house and we put an intake on it. and he just put a silverline dual 4 inch system on it. so he wanted me to do a drive by for him. those torque shift trans shift like a machine gun. once the get outa first and build a little boost, watch out. i live right off a long 2 lane road, so i got with in sight slowed to about 30mph, i believe still lugging 4th, well the torque converter was unlocked but so it dropped to idle but it was stilll in 4th. then i floorboarded it... . it down shifted twice and in about 1. 2 seconds i passed the house at 70mph. i bout ****** my self. seriously pete, when that V8 winds up to about 3800-4000 rpms, shew. after 3500 it sounds like an old shelby cobra, weirdest thing i ever heard, it dont sound like no diesel i ever heard.

its pretty cool... i cant lie there, but it just dosent feel or sound like a diesel other than at idle. oh and you wanna talk about hammering, good gosh, that thing is nothin but ping-ping-ping-ping-ping... sounds like a buncha little asian dudes havin a ping pong tournament under that hood. :-laf

At 12 I was impressed with Mopeds and at 19 I was impressed with fat chicks. ;)
