While doing my tire rotation and grease-in up I noticed my rubber boot that covers the ball joint has a cut in it. (well, I noticed the grease pouring out !) The dealer does not sell this as a separate item, "have-ta buy the tie rod end". I'm going clean it up and try putting some RTV sealant over the boot.

Has anyone out their purchased these as a separate item or sealed one up with success?

I've found it hard to find the right sized boot and have made my own with a short section of bicycle inner tube attached with a cable ties or wire. A puncture proof tube is best. You will have to disconnect the joint.

Another (but more expensive solution) is to replace with a Lukes Link. Depending on your milage you will get there sooner or later. The Lukes like will tighten up the ball joint and give you some adjustibility on it.

Make sure you clean any excess grease up so that it does not get into the brakes. I had this happend and it quickly wraped a rotor.

Ask the dealer again. They sell the boot for Jeep Wranglers. I've bought two. Also, check the autoparts store. A few of the local guys have a section called HELP. The HELP section has all kinds of odd ball parts including rubber boots.

Energy Suspension thats where my son got them for his 99. He had to replace both of them already. I think he had to order them through 4 wheel parts though. Some time they have them in stock,if not they order for you.
