I am looking at new(to me) trucks in the year range of 2000-2002. Is there any quick tests I can do on the lot to see what may be going on with the truck. For example:Cycle key three times for codes? Key on, push trip button for truck hours and do the math? Any ideas would be great!!! Thanks guys!!!

Ya You can do the three key cycle and see what codes are in and the you can go from there.

yes it works on a 99 also.

I did the key trick on a brand new 06 I wanted to test drive before I called DSM. Sales guy about crapped when I jumped back out of the truck and told him the truck needed to see the tech.

As far as does it work on 99s - I know it doesnt on mine. However, the early builds 12/98 - 6/99 (or so - I've heard) do not do the 3 key on/off thing and the later ones do 7/99 and up. It depends on what computer was installed . . . so I've heard. Kind of a 50/50 toss with the 99s.
