Cylinder liners in 5.9 engine

Spoke with a Cummins rep. regarding a remanufactured 5.9 long block for my 2006 dodge ram 3500. He indicated that it may come with cylinder liners installed, depending on the condition of the core block used in the rebuild, and the liners machined to accept standard sized pistons. I have heard negative comments regarding the use of liners in these engines, (pressure leaks into crankcase, pitting corrosion on liners, etc.) Any information regarding the pros and cons of this set up would be appreciated.

The liners are dry pitting is not an issue I have seen

Thanks for the input gents. I believe I'll go with the Cummins long block, as it does come with injectors. $7100 plus tax and $3000 refundable core charge. Ouch!! Hope it's a good one -

If cummins rebuilds them, then I would trust it. I lost my Mercruiser engine in my boat a few years back, and the insurance company authorized a Mercruiser rebuilt long block, it actually has ran better over the years then the original.

BTW, I had a rough day on Lake Mead with 4-5' Seas running over 30 miles, with constant on and off the throttle caused my exhaust flappers to deteriorate. The next day I hit the landyard switch by accident and hydroliced the motor.

A Cummins long block does not come with injectors to the best of my knowledge. David
