My dad just bought a 1998. 5 Dodge 2500 4x4, Quad Cab, with a 24-valve Cummins in it (42,000 miles). It has 4. 10 gears with rear LS, is forest green, and has brand new tires on it. That now makes two Cummins in the family. I have my 1992 (which Dad helped me buy). He was looking at a brand new GMC 3/4 ton gasser, but I convinced him he would be better off with a Cummins. Just wanted to ask you fellows if there is anything he should pay particular attention to on his new truck. I will be doing the service work on it, but wanted to know if there are any problems I can nip in the bud. He is on his second truck (still owns the first) and is wanting to keep this one for the next 20 years. Thanks so much for the help. I love my '92, but that 24 Valve rocks!

Case,

Congrats on your choice of a Cummins for I know your Dad will get the next 20 years out it with proper care. I have a 99 can't offer much in the way of items to be concerned about. Depending on how he plans to use the truck installing some guages would be a good idea.

As I understand your writing you will be doing the preventive maintenance so with clean fuel, proper oil changes and routine service you should be trouble free for some time to come.

Happy motoring! dave
