Wobble Shake

Is this problem on trucks with 2" lift only, or on all of them that have the 315/70/17? I don't think I am going to lift mine until I put the air ride on, but I don't want the shakes either.

I have none with mine, but my 2000 had that with 2" spacers and STOCK shocks and 305's Put the 265's back on with no lift and was gone... . Was definantly shocks on mine as they were about topped out with the spacers.

Just cured my nephews 01 1500 problem with fresh shocks/stabilizer and tire rotation. One tire was at 28 psi... ..... I told him not to touch anything until I got a look at it ! Well that cured it and I also wated a chance to get a good front end inspection while it was off the ground. Drag link ends and tie rod were gone too,but to the point, the problem is gone and He took the truck to a commercial truck tire shop and got the joints and tires replaced. The reason He called me in the first place is that the dealer wanted 3800 dollars to same job and the tires would not have been bfg 285's. Cost to date $950 + 8 hours labor(mine $ his)

The spacer has nothing to do with the wheel jumping up and down. The motion (oscillation) is suppose to be controlled by the shocks. I have run a spacer for years now and they do not give you any problems. You most likely have two problems. First you raised the trucks height by 2", if you live in a very bumpy, rough area and the suspension is asked to travel to it's limits. Your shocks are most likely bottoming out, they were not designed to extend as far as your truck is asking them two, so when you hit bumps and the suspension moves, it is suddenly stopped from extending by the shock. The second thing you have, is most likely worn, bad, week shocks. Both problems can and will be solved by the replacement of your shocks with new, quality, longer then stock shocks. Tell the salesman that you have raised the trucks front height, they will then be able to get you the right ones. Also, I would replace the rears at the same time.
I agree with rock jeep about the shock, I had a bad shock on a 74 cadilac and it was hard to believe that the tire actually left the pavement almost three inches very rapidly. Replace one shock and no problem. The extra two inches of spacer has most likely ruined one or both shocks. A shocks primary function is to keep the tire in contact with the pavement and secondary function is ride quality. When the tires get to bouncing like this it is VERY violent. My old caddy would only do it on concrete interstate wich had just the right pattern to induce the problem, but when it started it was pretty scary!

I had real bad death wobble... Just as you explained. I replaced the front shocks & dual stabalizers. Day & night. I wish I did it separately, so I knew what the prob was, but I think both were about shot. I believe it came from the shocks.

Also, in my CJ, I had terrible wobble/jumping & it ended up being my front wheel bearing. The flaming grease gave that one away real quick, but that's another story!! :)

Good Luck, that might be one of the worst problems to have when driving - not fun!!

I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THEM TO CHECK THE ALIGNMENT AGAIN AND THE DRIVERS SIDE TIRE WAS OUT 43 DEG. PLUS. NOW I HAVE NO DEATH WOBBLE BUT I SPENT A LOT OF MONEY ON SHOCKS, STEERING STABILIZERS,AND BAL. TIRES AND ALL IT WAS THE DEALER DID A BAD ALIGHNMENT. I HOPE I CAN SAVE SOME OF YOU A LOT MONEY. GET THE ALIGNMENT CHECKED AGAIN.

PS I AM A FIREMAN AND GOT A CALL SAT. AND GOT MY TRUCK UP TO 95 MPH NO DEATH WOBBLE NOW.
