I have changed quite a few yokes and/or seals without changing the crush collar... . or whatever it's called.

Most of this was on D60/70 stuff... . no D80 stuff under my belt... yet.

You don't need another crush spacer to replace just the pinion seal if you will take a small sharp chisel and index the pinion nut to the threads on the pinion shaft BEFORE you loosen the nut. (Make a small line on the edge of the nut and extend it onto the threads just a bit)The nut needs to be retightened to the exact location it was before disassembly to replace the old seal.

cowboy up,

The Dana 80 doesn't use a crush sleeve. The service manual has a procedure to measure the turning resistance before and after a seal replacement. Putting the nut back EXACTLY as it was will probably work for you. Larry

No crush sleeves on the Dana 80. The torque is 450 ft-lbs and you do need a puller to remove the flange.

I marked mine on removal and reinstalled it with a large impact (a friend of mine owns a 5 bay repair business) and let it hammer for a while to get it tightened back up to where it was. I actually went a tick past where it was to make sure the torque was where it neede to be. That was 1 1/2 years ago.

HOWEVER, many times the seal is leaking because the pinion bearings are loose. Check for clearance with a dial indicator before you disassemble.

They will also leak if you get string or hair or something similar between the seal and the yolk.
