I have a 99 3500 Dually. Recently it has devoloped a darting to the right when the brakes are applied. The harder the brakes are applied the more serious the dart. Any suggestions on where to start.

Thanks

Jim

RE: BRAKES

Check your rear brakes, you could have a seal leaking oil on the shoes, or it could be as simple as adjusting the rear brakes so they brake equally. Good luck.

Had the same problem on my 98. 5. Adjusted the rear brakes a few days ago and it really helped. I still believe one side of the front is applying more pressure to the pads because the right side always has more brake dust on the wheel and wears the pads out first. Thought about replacing the hoses and calipers but haven't done so yet. If anyone solves this, please post the fix. Thanks, Kenny

Whoa!! Try cleaning the pi$$ out of them first. Take them off the rotor, take off the pads, pump the brakes to push the pistons out as far as you dare (they will come out) and give the whole thing a bath in brake cleaner, or alcohol (rubbing alcohol works OK) and scrub with a toothbrush. You may also want to flush your system out real good too. Take out the brake bleeder so any large chunks or floaters will get out. Yeah, it's messy, and time consuming, but a lot cheaper than the replacement.

I bet Tom is right you have a bad leaking rear seal. Get it fixed and the brakes cleaned up or it can cause an accident.

Darting Brakes 3500 Dually

Thanks for the tips. I will start with checkindg and adjusting the rear and move forward. Will post the results later. Thanks

Dartng right

Mine was darting right and it turned out the caliper was not releasing fully when I let off the brakes. Mash down on the brakes, raise the front-end without moving the truck, and spin the wheels. This will tell you if you have a caliper hanging up.
