Has anyone added speakers to the dash in the 3 locations that the Infinity ones are usually installed? Do you have to run wiring or is it already there? I have the standard CD player and was wondering if I could upgrade my speakers for better sound.

3 locations? I have the Infinity and the only dash locations I know of are at the far left and right corners of the top of the dash.

I did it. It takes 3. 5" tweeters - Rockford Fosgate makes a nice sounding set. I just tapped into the wires going into the doors. I've forgotten what colors they were but if you do a search, you'll find the colors and pics.

They will make your system sound better but unless you replace the head unit, it will always be somewhat muffled.

By the way, the center speaker looks smaller but it's actually the same 3. 5" dia. I was going to use mine to mount a C. B. speaker someday.

Has anyone checked to see if the infinity connectors are there in a non infinity vehicle?

I just received my order from Crutchfield. I got all Infinity Reference speakers. (2) 3. 5" for the dash, (2) 3-way 6x9's for the doors, and (2) 6. 5" 2-ways for the rear doors. When going to install the 3. 5" speakers, I realized my truck didn't have any there to begin with! I reached my hand down in the factory hole to see if there were any connectors, but I couldn't feel any. Has anyone found them? I'd find it hard to believe that they weren't there somewhere!!

Sorry but no, there's no speaker wires there w/o Infinity. The good news is that the fr door speaker wires are easy to tap into under the dash. No need to run wires all the way from inside the doors.

By the way, the rear speakers are 5 1/4 inch by 2. 5" deep. 6" are going to take some modification.

There might not be a wireing harness for the tweeters on the standard radio, because the Infinity system uses a seperate power amp located behind the glove box, and all the speaker wires come from there.

Anyone have the wiring color codes for the front speakers so that I can just tap into them?

My truck is a Quad Cab. The speakers in the rear door are 6. 5"

ok guys. . I know this is tad off subject, but what size speakers are in the rear doors of the 04's?

Crutchfield told me 5 1/4's and sold them to me. . now I am seeing that they could be 6 1/2's? I am going to start tearing my truck apart as soon as I have time, but I'd hate to get it apart and find out that crutchfield lied to me. .

They are 6 1/2's. If you search based on your year and model of truck even Crutchfield's website shows 6 1/2's. I would send them back and get replacements before tearing into your truck.

My truck is an 03 Ram 2500 Quad Cab/Short bed.

It HAS 6x9" speakers in the front.

It HAS 6. 5" speakers in the rear doors.

It HAS holes for 3. 5" speakers up front.

Removed the factory 6X9's in the front doors. The factory speakers have a spacer ring that you need to remove and add to your new 6x9's. Then they will bolt right in (I used Infinity Reference 9603i 3-ways).

Removed the factory 6. 5" from the rear doors. Replaced them with Infinity Reference 6002si. Only modification needed is to add one more screw hole to have at least 3 mounting screw holes to hold the speaker.

I have a pair of Infinity Reference 3. 5" but no wires in the front holes to hook them up... . yet...

Well, you could tap into the front left channel for the front left speaker. If you hook them in series you will have an 8 ohm load... just like factory. Then hook your front right speaker, to your front right channel. This will be dividing the total power available for the 2 channels into 4 speakers. This is assuming your aftermarkets speakers are 4ohms to begin with.

OR, you could do like my buddy did on his truck and add the 2 extra front speakers to the rear channels. That way your door 6x9's will still be plenty loud, and the rear channels power will be divided by the rear door speakers and your new front speakers.

You kinda have to know, ya know

They are not... . Been there*Tried that. I wanted to upgrade my am/fm/cd to am/fm/cd/cassette (already had this unit) and thought Chrysler would not have made different wiring harnesses for different trucks, but when it comes to the Infinity, they do. Bought the Infinity speakers & amp from a guy and found out after tear down that everything I needed was not there.

On my 03' 3500 Ram the rear door speakers were 5 1/4". I looked in the service manual and it also states 5 1/4" in the rear door for both the standard and premium audio system. Here is a quote from the service manual.

SPEAKER

DESCRIPTION

STANDARD

The standard equipment speaker system includes

speakers in four locations. One 15. 2 X 22. 8 centimeter

(6 X 9 inch) full-range speaker is located in each

front door. There is also one full-range 13. 3 centimeter

(5. 25 inch) diameter full-range speaker located in

each rear door.

PREMIUM

The optional premium speaker system features

eleven Premium model speakers in seven locations.

Each of the standard speakers is replaced with Premium

model speakers. One 8. 8 centimeter (3. 50 inch)

diameter speaker is located on each end of the

instrument panel top pad. One 6. 3 centimeter (2. 50

inch) diameter speaker is located in the center of the

instrument panel top pad. One 15. 2 X 22. 8 centimeter

(6 X 9 inch) Premium speaker is located in each

front door. There is also one coaxial 13. 3 centimeter

(5. 25 inch) diameter Premium full-range speaker

located in each rear door. The premium speaker system

also includes a power amplifier mounted behind

the glove box. The total available power of the premium

speaker system is 240 watts.

Well, you could tap into the front left channel for the front left speaker. If you hook them in series you will have an 8 ohm load... just like factory.

Er, the factory speakers are 4 ohm (base) and 2 ohm (Infinity. )

Anyway, wiring dissimilar speakers in series is not a good idea. The resulting impedance of the two speakers can cause problems for the radio's power amp.

That is wierd! I know for POSITIVE that my rear door speakers are 6. 5"!!! I removed the factory one's... that were 6. 5" and had 3 mounting holes, and replaced them with 6. 5" aftermarket, that had 4 mounting holes!!!

Why would they have 2 different size speakers in some trucks?

Glad I have the big ones!

I remeasured the infinity that I pulled out of mine. The fronts are 6x9's, the rear are 6. 5's. I used Alpine Type R loudspeakers to replace the infinity's. These Type R's run large and therefore could only fit 5. 25's in the rear.
