I think that is how they run their business, it's not a typical dealership (a good thing), they do a lot of out-of-town/state deals.
Les McDaniels who I used in '06(he's since moved on) told me 70% of DS business is out of state. My friend on the Big Island used them and even with dually oversized shipping beat anybody there. I had especially good luck with their service dept. All the accessories and services performed by them were done right.
Best part was DS receiving my special order truck from Saltillo in 29 days.

I bought a new truck from them in '06, guy I dealt with has moved on. Had a great experience. I contacted them about a '14 with the options I wanted. They couldn't come close to what a local dealer offered. Maybe next time.

I appreciate straight shooters. That's how I do business. When I factor in shipping, Dave Smith is approx the same as I can get local, but at Dave Smith Teddy got me that price in one email, but at the local dealer I had to do "the dance", and felt like I needed a shower afterward. Teddy and Dave Smith won by being hassle free.

I called DS early afternoon yesterday for kicks. When I asked for someone in Ram sales, the gal asked if this was Jason. Obviously, they have caller ID. I had called them a few months back and talked to salesman X, so the gal automatically transfered me to salesman X who still has yet to return my call.....just like last time.

The only reason Dave smith sells the volume they do is because of price and bait and switch. Be damn careful when you spec the truck out that it actually has what you want. They are notorious for telling you the truck has "all mopar accessories", "limited slip", etc. I personally know of two individuals that flew down from Alaska, picked up a new truck there and by the time they got home they realized they had been had. Neither truck had anti-spin diffs, no winterization (they had been assured by the salesman that the trucks were fully winterized.....just a block heater and NO cord). Buyer beware. Stick with your local dealer if possible.

This is what worries me about DS or DD. I have to admit though, there are LOT's of Rams rolling in my neck with those fancy pink DS paper plates.

My self my Dad and many people I have referred and the guy who referred me to them all have had positive experiences!!!!!

I would have bought from them again but the local guy beat them on what they gave for my trade.

Pays to read the window sticker. The winterization would have been itemized as a dealer add-on. Regardless, sounds like DS wasn't truthful. Definitely give your local dealer the biz if possible.
DS provided me a fax of everything on the truck and pricing before I agreed. Photos too.

I drove down the mointain today to one of my 2 closet dealers and got a quote for a 2015 3500 SRW G56. Naturally, priced way above Dave Smith, Dennis Dillion etc. When I got home, I searched the net for a truck similarly equiped truck located in Ca with no luck. I did however, find a few Bighorn, Aisin models that were advertised for less than today's quoted price. I relayed this info to the salesman I dealt with today. So tomorrow, I'll contact DS yet again and see if they'll quote me a price for the same truck that I priced out today and then give that to my local dealer to ponder over as well. Hopefully, the local dealer will play ball.

It's amazing how many people DON'T read the window sticker. All it takes to sour a buyer on a deal is a rotten salesman. People most certainly need to educate themselves prior to buying a truck from any dealer.

The LA Times had an article on the high turnover of car salesman due to the low profit on new vehicles at the dealer level. The manufacturers are cleaning up on trucks. Used cars and trucks are frequently suggested as the profit's higher. Don't count on a knowledgeable salesperson. I was lucky.
I did get jacked up a bit from the finance dept at DS but my salesguy warned me beforehand. The guy wasn't happy but that's fine.

I've tried to get a price from Dave Smith twice - once when I ordered my 2002 and again when I ordered my 2011. E-mails weren't answered and/or calls weren't returned either time. One of my local dealers wound up making both sales through his internet desk....

YMMV.
