I jsut bought a 2004 Ram 2500 Diesel. I want to add Daytime Running lights which the owners manual says are available on Canadian and Fleet trucks. This options turns on low beam headlights while driving - - these are not the roof mount clearance lights. My insurance company gives a discount for these lights. Can any one give me the source for , and a list of the parts required? The 1997 service manual for my old truck listed only a "module and gave no other specific information. I do not have the 2004 service manual yet. Thanks Jim J

Go to your friendly Dodge dealer and tell them to use the DRB and change the US option to Canadian.

Oh and welcome to the TDR!

I asked the service guy at my dealer and got the deer in the headlights look. I called back with information I found here and the service manager said he had never heard of it, no one had ever asked for it, but he was willing to try it.

If you do a search you will get quite a bit of information. My understanding is that it turns on the brights at 40%.

It's a simple programming change to switch the daytime running lights on. They just select Canada as the location.

The computer runs the lights at a 40% duty cycle. .

Tell the DEER IN THE HEADLIGHT folks at the dealer to call STAR(their tech assist)Daytime running lights are able to be turned on on ALL D. C. products and have been for several years.

Good suggestion. I will to that.

Just curious. Anyone know why they don't just provide the daytime running lights? It would seem to me it would an added safety feature that would just be an automatic feature like it is on GMs.

Well a interesting article I read a while back said it WAS NOT A SAFETY feature and actually might help cause more accidents. G. M. is one of the FEW that its always ON and most of them have one side burned out.

You mean they are supposed to have 2 ?... I honestly thought it was only one...

Why does anyone need DRL's? I figure if someone can't see these trucks coming they shouldn't be on the road anyway. :) Can't wait until my Buckstop is installed. Oo.

Unfortunately I do not remember were I read that. Car and Driver/Motor Trend etc. but it was a somewhat long article. Mainly it boiled down to the light drawing your eyes and mind to it. Like waving at a bull or crow being attracted to a shiny bright object. . Involved insurance studies and stats on wrecks etc. Also stats on other country's that they were used and were not used. We just bought a Mercury Marquis and it DOES take a different BCM etc. to make them work. Just not a program or a flash. Wife wanted them ON. She has to turn lights on manually or not have lights on during the day. Now that I think about it COP cars DON"T have them on.

It is not as simple as changing the country code. I have had mine turned on on my two 02 1500's and my 03 and now the 04 2500. You have to change the country code, and then exit out and cycle the key. Then go back in and enable DRL. It gives the option of low or high intensity (but still less than 100%). You might have to try it a couple of times. Once you are finished you can change the country code back to US and the DRL's will stay on.

Oh, and be sure the parking brake is not on. If it is they will not light up.

As a Harley rider since 1958, I think DRL are a real dis-service to motorcycle riders. DRLs remove the "uniqueness" of motorcycles having their headlight on. Personally, Gm's DRLs is one reason I don't buy their products.

DRL's are for motorcycles, they need them, and its easy to ID a bike ,thanks to GM now we see them way too much, thank god GMs bulbs burn out a lot.

Around here we have had several high accident rate roads greatly reduce the number of collisions by requiring drivers to turn on their headlights. I've got my DRL's activated - no parts to buy , just a scan tool change.

I like the idea of the DRL. At least at dusk and dawn. The sun can, because of glare at times, make it near impossible to see an on coming vehicle. It does help.
