Hey G. M stinks also. In fact I think their worse or at least was when I worked in a G. M. dealer. Very arrogant. Brag about being the BIGGEST/Best etc. The reps I had and dealings with higher ups/tech support etc. Most had a holier then thou attitude. I found D. C. reps/tech lines etc MUCH more helpful/friendly etc. I've been out of the business about 4 years now. The two G. M. reps I had(Cad. &Olds) I wouldn't have stopped for if they were stranded on the side of the road. Olds Tech lines stunk and very arrogant. Thought their stuff didn't stink. It can from higher ups as most attitudes do. Cad rep about choked when I asked about their WORLD CLASS NORTHSTAR engine being TWO VEGA motors welded togather and sure enough oil usage problems, dropped cyls. (I mean shift down in the block/they float internaly)etc. G. M. never hardly trashes junk, they just wait 20 years and try it on the comsumer again. Usually the results aren't much better then the first time. I could tell you some stories.

If the state requires them to buy this pretty pig back, I have decided to go Durango Hemi.

Why would you give DC your business after they've been screwing you for 10 months? There are several SUVs better than a Durango. How about a Toyota Sequoia? JMHO

I agree, the only benefit of a Durango is it will still allow you to repeatedly experience DC's service department so you can decide if it is just a Ram related coverage issue or not. Not reasoning enough for me to further dump money into the German's economy if they think so little of our customer complaints, problems. This is why my dodge was bought used and is not leaving my driveway for many more years, they won't get present day sales records from me.

The Sequoia would cost more in the beginning, but would retain value used that is unreachable in a Durango after 1 year alone, no matter how nice of condition it is in.

Guys hold on now. Me thinks they(manufactures)are all about the same. Including their customer NO SERVICE 1800 numbers. Not hardly a nickles woth of differance between them. Read some other sites. You'll hear the SAME thing! Time after time! Do they really have a Mormon Mafia?

Look Pumpkinhead. What ever is stuck up your tail pipe, it may serve you well to remove it before someone, like myself, pays you a visit and shuts your mouth or just breaks your keyboard. Remarks like yours are a waste of time and with your mentality, I wonder what kind of job you have that qualified you to buy a Cummins? I guess yours must be a lease. :-laf :-laf I think, since you seem to live in SLC, the Mormon Mafia needs to set you straight

So we have now resorted to personal threats... ... . how mature of you

Moved here from So Cal 10 yrs ago and I love this "Mormon" stuff! I call it the great Mormon Myth that keeps all the a**holes out of here.

Ya, listen up everyone... it's evil here! Evil, evil Mormons everywhere you look! Stay away! ;)

Go back to your cities full of traffic and nasty folks, it is way better than this evil Mormon state... . They are everywhere... . RUN!

Whew! Gotta replant that seed every chance possible or people might find out about how great it is here.

Let's see, which blue ribbon trout stream do I fish this weekend or do I ski the greatest snow on earth at one of the 7 ski resorts 20 minutes from my door... hummmm... . or maybe I'll take the trailer up to the Tetons for the weekend... . humm...

Keep it up Pumpkineater we need the negative publicity!

Rick, You are definitely right. The problem is that I don't think I have the option, now that I have filed, to just get a refund. I'll find out on thursday. It appears that I am stuck with DC if that is a fact. I WILL ask for a refund as the customer service I have experienced, or lack thereof, is disgraceful. I had a serious problem with a 96 Ford F150, engine failed at 7,000 miles due to a flaw in the casting of the engine block, Dealer apologized, put a new engine in it, gave me a new truck to drive while they fixed it. Then the transfer case broke, crack in housing, they apologized again and fixed it. In the next 3,000 miles I had radiator leak, heater core leak, and 5 auto locking hubs broke. All replaced with apologies. Never owned a vehicle with so many problems. I traded it off the next year for another ford because they took such good care of me. I never even considered filing the Lemon Law on that truck because Ford Customer Service and the dealer were so considerate and concerned about my problems.

DC has ignored all of us with this problem and IMHO they deserve whatever criticism we can throw their way. The comments about Toyota potentially kicking their butts are right on and they deserve it. If they don't suffer a hit in their pocketbook, they will never respond. I think we are seeing the beginning of another decline for Chrysler Corporation, excuse me, DAIMLER chrysler, emphasis on Daimler. :{ :{

Overall I am happy with my truck. I had a Toyota and two Nissans before this so I was really concerned about reliability. I have 22K miles on this truck and it had the steering wheel vibe that was fixed with the weight on the PS hose and the rear end whines at certain RPM's. My Toyota had a vibration at certain speeds as well but it was a good solid truck.

I average 15-17 mpg around town and the last time I pulled my 18' 4500lb trailer I was getting 13 mpg at 70 mph. My buddy with his V10 Ford gets about 8 mpg towing and his trailer weighs at least 1000lbs less than mine.

For as much as I paid for this truck I am hoping for at least 10 trouble free years.

Oh my gawd....

Groannnn... No, say it isn't so... please no, how about just staying put right there in paradise. Why... why I hear tell there are g-bears prowling these woods which ONLY eat Mormons, Jack Mormons, Mormon mafiosos, LSDs, or even just plain everyday old folks from Ewetah in a pinch. :-laf The blue ribbon trout streams are turning sort of puple from lake trout and whirling disease. And the snow pack is zip.

I've heard tell Colorado is beautiful this time of the year, or anytime of the year for that matter. And Denver is Atlantis reincarnate. :)

Oh, god, I'm dying over here.

Someone get a set of paddles out for these two, and make sure they're charged up. You guys are a riot!! My dad is only person I know who gets that riled up over 50.

Thanks for the laugh, its been a bad night, I needed this. Enjoy life, its much more fun knee slapping than Bi. ch slapping one another. Oh, god, I'm dying over here.

TRAILDOG!

THE MORMON MYTH LIVES ON! THANK YOU SIR!

On a side note, you should behold that fact that these nice folks down here and their seventeen kids per household come visit you every summer in their RV's and their wallets full of cash! :-laf They keep your state from drying up and blowing away!

The Mo's with their bearbites visit your hospitals, they pay $20 to ride your tubes down the river and they stop by your minimart for pop tarts and diet coke!

You know you love Utah! :-laf

PS- Denver!? You kidding... . it's a Los Angeles freeway clusterf**** surrounded by "mountains"

That would be a great trip. Apparently Zion's waterfalls are raging.

The ain't no shortage of water down there lately. I hear "Ark" building is the latest thriving business in the St George area these days!

Before I pick up the local newspaper and learn that TDR members are stalking one another, let me summarize my initial post; I had (as we all did) a certain expectation when purchasing our beloved trucks. That would be longevity, reasonable service life, relatively trouble-free operation and some semblance of utility and satisfaction (adequate mileage+reasonable maintenance costs+overall ownership enjoyment). In many respects, these issues are not being met by many CTD owners. I personally am irked when I am chastised by members who suggest my expectations are too high, quit my bellyaching and be grateful I have a CTD. I just read several posts from owners that changed fuel filters and couldn't get their trucks started after the changeout. Some found dead lift pumps while others had to go through a littany of quirky bleeding, cleaning electrical contacts etc etc to get their trucks up and running again. What the hell is up with that? We're not talking 200K high-mileage trucks here. I would suggest a ten minute job shouldn't require a post on TDR to be successful, as grateful as I am for this site. It's this kind of stuff that makes my hair hurt. Every piece of machinery has its own quirks but it seems every aspect of our beasts require a daily dose of TDR to stay on top of things. I love all this dialog but my goal is not to incite a riot. Just my . 02. Can I get an "Amen to that brother... ... . "

How did you fix your launch shudder? Mine has it, but it only happens on occasion when empty, but always when loaded. Dealer drove truck for 15 miles stop and go, and it never did it of course. I can't keep *****ing if they don't find the problem. One day I'll show up with a trailer and go for another ride with them. Otherwise, the truck has been great, ( had the vibration repaired by replacing rear axle assembly) and no other problems, at 24K now.

Do not think for a minute Toyota is in 3rd place. They have been top of the list for just about every category their trucks fit in to.

Toyota has the highest crash rating, best reliability, highest resale, what more can one ask for? If they they develope a true full size truck just a little bigger than the Tundra, they will most likely be #1 all around. Few ratings are ever inclusive of the diesel options for Full size trucks in their testing programs.

I would classify Toyota above Ford and GM both for the ranger, f-150, S-10, and whatever GM's 1/2 ton fullsize is called. Dodge would be somewhere below Nissan if it wasn't for the Diesel powered pickup options in my mind. A distant 4th or 5th place at best, not 3rd!!

Sales is what I meant.

Sure you can run out and buy a Duramax.

I had one. Nice trucks. But you won't get away from the current rash of problems all the new diesels have been exibiting with injection systems.

I had mine 3 years and 72,000 miles. Head gasket went at about 55,000. They run nice but have their own quirks. The Allison is nice but doesn't handle anymore power than the others without limping.

GM service is the best though.

All the new Diesels?

I have not seen a single issue even close to the Cummins. Duramax, Powerstroke failures in any CAT, VW, or Detroit engine. I have several friends driving the VW TDI's with not a single issue, other than the vehicles won't pull a 10,000 lb trailer. I'm willing to bet this is because VW not has a more tested and proven design, but they insure it is produced to their specs in their own plants.

This issues of most of these problems lays in quality control and lack of pride in a product's manufacturing. Dumping off the manufacturing to third world country plants doesn't help either. Taking the overlying control of a company and putting it in foreign hands doesn't help at all.

With all the technology incorporated into making the typical passenger vehicle function, it baffles me that a real time recorder is not available that could also allow for a customer to push a button on the dash or something to alert the system that it is acting improperly and date stamp the complaint, this would make troubleshooting issues that most complain about easier for the dealer service dept to find. Relying on the dealer to duplicate the complaint way out of date at this day and age. With systems like Onstar, the vehicle should be able to notify the manufacturer to send specific parts to a dealer to repair the problem as soon as it hits their lot.
