What is BUSH Doing???????

tdi jetta problems

I was looking at the new copy of Trailer Life and it had an article in there that DC is putting a diesel in the Jeep Liberty in late 2004 as a 2005 model. They said it was a 2. 8 liter TD built by Detriot and gets 30% better fuel mileage. We shall see.

Sounds Good!

In the market for a small wagon here.

Is the 2. 8 Detroit a new style engine or has it got years of testing?Hopefully 4-cyl's.

Tim

four wheeler magazine had a 2 page article on it and the engine is made by a italian company . . sorry but i don't have the name here with me now... . the article said it will be available with either a 5spd manula or a 4spd auto. . they prefered the auto etc. . any how engine is a aluminum head castiron bottom end 4cylinder overhead cam... just some extra info for you guys

skydiver- the basic engine design has been around for quite a while... They are actually made be vm motori, a division of detroit... I actually have a 2. 5 liter made by vm motori, it is IDI, OHV, four individual aluminum cylinder heads, etc... They have put these in the cherokees overseas for a while...

Does anyone have a bosch injection pump from a '93- '96 vw jetta or golf? I need one to replace the electronic one this engine came with...

there were no 93 -96 golf jetta diesels in the usa then only canada a 1. 9l idi td and na... so if your looking to make your electronicengine mechanical you nee to make a custom bosch ve pump with a 12mm plunger (biggest available) i used a older 1. 6L ve td pump with aneroid (9mm plunger) and found a reman ve cummins ve pump on ebay with a 12mm plunger and had piers pump guy build it for me... you need to have the governor rpm raised up as if th vm motori engine is like a vw it will rev up to at least 5000 rpm th ecummins pump toped out about 2300... also the cummins ve pump ha a larger pump shaft then the old vw pump although the new tdi pumps have the same larger diameter as the cummins pump. . cool so let me know how you make out. .

thanks

Something is not right here!

There is NO 2. 8L engine!

The VM engine is a 2. 5L engine. Chrysler has used that engine for a long time. ( Cherokee, Voyager... ) It's a rather good engine!

Then again there is a Mercedes engine and that one is a 2. 7L, 5Cyl.

So where comes the 2. 8L from??????

Probably it's a typo!

I've talked to our local Chrysler dealer some time ago. I wanted to know why DC still uses VM engines while Mercedes builds to notch diesel engines.

The reason is simple. The 2. 7L Mercedes engine is a 5 Cyl and won't fit into the Chrysler Cars/Suv's engine bay. It's too long! The only 4 Cyl engine Mercedes builds is a 2. 2L, slightly too small to move them rather heavy Chrysler vehicles.

Oh yeah, VM does not build or will build a 2. 8L 4Cyl engine...

WARNING

my feminine side coming out here... . I think those liberties are cuter than a basket of kittens and puppies :D

when i heard there was a chance of a diesel in one, i told my wife that would be my next commuter.

count me IN! and will take silver please.

He He, guys just come over here, you CAN drive one today! :D

As a side note, I've BOMBed several ECM's of that engine.

Runs great! Not like the mighty Cummins though. .

therabbittree-

Thanks for the tips... There was a pump on e-bay a while back that was exactly what I needed, and it was supposedly out of a '93 - '96 jetta or golf... I got outbid seconds before the auction ended... I haven't seen another pump on there since, but I've been looking...

The hardest part about making a custom one like you said is to get the right housing... On my pump, the shaft sticks out about 2 3/8", and the pump is bolted on with three bolts, whereas on most every vw I've seen, the shaft only sticks out 1 7/8" (no bump)... .

I was wrong!

Guy's,

I've said that there's no 2. 8L engine.

Well I was wrong!

The "new" engine is the old 2. 5L engine with larger bore and a second generation Common Rail. Got the news yesterday through a friend that works @ VM.

Sorry for the mis-information...
