I went and did a baddddddd thing. I bought my used 1998. 5 3500 from a Ford dealership. Anyway, I love the truck, but they do not know Jack Sh** about a Cummins. Funny, when I brought it back for a steering play issue, the head foreman said to me, "A powerchoke will out pull this Dodge anyday. Bring it on!

Anyway, I had to bring it to DC for sporadic tach problems. It ended up being the Crank Sensor. Anyway, when I picked it up, they said I owed them $256. 00. I thought that was covered under engine warranty? They said NO!

What gives?

I had a similar situation, I finagled my way into getting done free. Make them read the warranty on the Engine, it says that it covers all internal parts. The crank sensor goes into the timing cover and the tone ring is on the crank inside of the timing cover. I had to fight long and hard (they wanted to charge me 500 bucks) for fixing it. Hope you can get them to own up.

Experienced the same problem with my 98. 5. The tach died and the engine whent into limp mode and would not start after shutdown. I diagnosed the problem by reading the shop manual. Service manager confirmed it with the trouble code scanner. Replaced it under warranty without any discussion.
