Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) DD Boost Module vs Boost Elbow

I am a relatively new member of this forum but I have been surfing this place for quite awhile. I have a 2000 2WD 2500 Quadcab with ETC and 6-speed. I am going to add DDII's and an Edge EZ or Comp. Diesel Dynamics offers their Boost Module and Edge has their elbow in their packages. Do these 2 different items do the same thing? Is one better than the other? I am little fuzzy on these 2 items. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The boost elbow is a small brass elbow that you replace on your turbo that triggers the opening of the wastegate. The factory elbow will allow full boost to get through to the wastegate control and your boost is limited to roughly 20 psi. When you put in an aftermarket boost elbow, it limits the amount of boost reaching the wastegate control keeping the wastegate closed longer allowing you to run higher boost pressures.



But since the engine computer does like to see boost pressures get too high, you have to have an add-on module to "fool" the computer into thinking that boost is no higher than normal. This is where the boost module comes in. It get plugged in-line to the MAP sensor and clips the voltage so that the computer only sees a max of 20 psi and doesn't set an overboost code.



You can buy standalone boost modules, but most (if not all) of the fueling boxes have a built-in boost module. (The EZ and Comp definitely do).



So in your case since you're getting a fueling box, there is no need to get an extra boost module.

won't the 2000 turbo have a Hard line waste gate fitting?



I think my 2002 has it, and i am wondering how hard it is to modify to allow high boost? the 99 ram was a snap, fitting out - fitting in, simple...

2000 has a fitting, no hardline, so a simple fitting change. Any fueling box you buy should have a boost module built into it.

Thank you for your quick reply, Justin. I was just a little fuzzy on that part. I will go for the II's and Comp but probably not connect the fuel pump wire untill I get a fuel pressure guage and a new clutch.

are the 2001 models with auto transmission the ONLY trucks with the hard line boost elbow?



my 2002 manual truck has a threaded elbow, but is not a 90 degree fitting, but more like a thin 45 degree turn, what gives, did they only do it hard lined for one year?
