I have a 2002 6speed HO. My question is can DD3's be installed by themselves? Do you have to upgrade anything else? Also, are they hard to install? Finally, what kind of horsepower #'s are we talking about. Are these the best injectors out there?

Thanks for all they help.

Jay,

Welcome to the site!! To answer your question, 3's cant quite be installed by themselves. Those are fair sized nozzles, here is the minimum you will need to do to effectively run them:

1. Need some sort of boost fooler (EZ, VA, DD EZ, etc... ) or a simple boost fooler

2. Boost Elbow on the stock 35.

Check your EGTs once you have them in, depending on your altitude you might run a little hot and need a 4" exhuast kit.

As far as install, they are reallypretty simple. Let us know where you are at, I bet there is a local TDR member willing to help you put em in. I run 3's but I have an ETC, hopefully we get a ETH member to join in on the power gains you can expect from 3's.

DD3's are rated 100HP +-

They will make 115+ on the HO. I'd recommend gauges, exhaust, airbox and a bigger turbo with that setup to keep EGT's in check if towing heavy.

When I got my DDIII's I put them on top of the valve cover but they never did install by themselves. I had to put them in. . :D Oh I crack myself up-but the answers before me were pretty good-if you only want a small power increase and $'s a factor put in some 275 Rv injectors.

Did you read the name of who your dealing with:eek:

See what I mean. :--)

DDIII's and edge comp on ETH

I went with the edge comp box first and then clutch. Now I need more. I want to get the DDIII's. To run the DDIII's and the edge comp, I will be to hot towing, but what about traveling empty? If I add the DDIII's will I have gains like I did when I went from stock to the edge comp? What will the best option be to get this combo to run at a desired temp? Air intake and 4 or 5 inch exhaust? Or do I need to upgrade my stock turbo?

I am trying to go to the next level as cheep as possible with the holidays coming... . unless I can get Santa to bring toys foe me...

I put in the III's first, no boost elbow, no boost fooler, no problem, I had them in for over a year like that. If I was towing I had to watch the temps. Do you have gauges? If not you need to do them first.

Fuel pressure & EGT at a minimum.

Don't worry about overboosting without a boost elbow. Your waste gate will take care of that.

With just the III's (mine were from Bully Dog) I dyno'd at 285hp. Don't really know about those numbers seemed low to me and alot of other people there. But I had the stock clutch at the time and was nursing it along. I had the comp at the time but knew the clutch wouldn't last very long with that also.

Running stock, my HO would hit 1300 degF pre-turbo EGT when towing our 13,500 lb 5th wheel (21,180 lbs GCW versus 21,500 GCWR). I wouldn't suggest more fuel until you do something about the air/exhaust situation to control EGTs. As a minimum, you'll need a boost fooler and boost elbow.

I could keep from slipping the stock ETH clutch with the DD2's by unplugging the Edge EZ's data link cable and just using it for a boost fooler. With injectors only, the powerband feels very much like stock - it doesn't have the big low-end and mid-range "hit" you get with a timing/fueling box. This makes life much easier on the clutch. If you want it all with a box and injectors, though, you better budget a clutch upgrade "just in case".

You ask if the DD3's are the best injectors out there. The question is, "Best for what?" Running empty on the street? Drag racing only? Sled pulling? Towing heavy? We really need to know more about your application before even trying to answer that question.

you will need a clutch probably a turbo and more fuel pump, if you tow you will see a lot of heat. i think i am gonna take mine out in favor of something a little cooler

Weidner

I ran my eth on the comp for a lil over a year & although it was a great kick in the pants, when I added the dd3's, it was more impressive then just the comp itself. The injectors really awaking the ETH with the use of the comp. I am still running the stock turbo, but with a 4" exhaust & afe airfilter. When on 5x5 I can run the egt's up to 1300 pretty quick but man what a ride. Driveability around town is fine, I usually keep the comp on 3x1 just to keep the smoke down. The only negative thing I found is I was able to go 400 miles on a tank towing with the comp on 5x5 with stock injectors. Now with the injectors & the comp on 1x1 I get 350 miles to a tank. No real noticible diffenece in towing other than the mileage.

Now if someonce could convince me going to a larger turbo would give me the same kick in the pants, I might just plop down the loot to get one. I just hate to spen 1200 on a lager turbo with only lil to gain. I know it's importance, but I dont ever park it over 1300. I dont need to go that fast rite now. I really just been holding out for a set of twins, but I keep spending my loot elsewhere.

Weidner, our Stage 3's will make more power by themselves than the Comp on 5x5. With the Comp, even more. You will need an airbox, gauges, turbo upgrade, 4" exhaust and clutch to handle that power.

CFAR, that power seems low, especially with some 3's. The ETH's typically make around 220hp stock, and we regularly see 115hp+ gain with our 3's. Did you ever dyno it stock?

Just to add a little here, since I have DD3's, a hot Comp and a bone stock HX40...

I never dyno'd my truck when it was bone stock, so I can't say what that number would have been.

On a DynoJet dyno earlier this year, with the comp connected but turned completely off, I did 345 HP. With the Comp on 5x5 I did 439 HP. So, I would estimate that the DD3's and the HX40 (remember, bone stock HX40) I got ~130 HP from that combo alone.

I also have a South Bend FE clutch to hold it all together.

No I never did, I only wish. Everyone else thought it was a little low also. I had a K&N, no boost elbow at the time. And I had the stock muffler on.

Also I needed to upgrade my clutch, it would slip at anything less than 2000 rpm in 5th or 6th, if you wanted it to. So I was not hammering it on the dyno. I was rolling into it at about 45mph in 6th, but not flooring it.

Just putting in the DD3s without a boost fooler you wont get their full potential the ECM will defuel you. You can get these for around a hundred bucks new. As are they the best injectors? I would say no as I have similar injectors on my truck and I am not happy with 540 hp they provide. I have much bigger ones on order and they should be here any day. Welcome to the darkside.

I just ordered my DTT, i have an edge EZ but am thinking of possibly doing the HX40 turbo from piers, and a set of DD3s, would this offer enough air to keep the EGT's down? i have a Scotty cold air intake at home, it just hasnt installed itself yet.

Kaptn- Not that I questioning your obvious overstatement of equestrian power, but with the 1/4 mile time you posted along with the claimed horsey power were you towing the QE II? ;)

No the supermentals will not make the HX40 spool faster. The hybrid hx35/40 spools faster because the exhaust side is the same size as the hx35 (read smaller) however the other side of the coin is more exhaust flow restriction at higher boost. Also comp boxes will not make the turbo spool faster either.
