DD's Autometer fogging...

Has anyone else had this problem? It's on the Pyro and transmission temp meters the Pyro is worse. The problem was only slight this summer but now that the weather is cooler down here their building condensation pretty bad, their only about six months old any Idea's

Well guys, I'll have to say this is the first I have heard of any gauges other than the pyrometer fogging up.



I talked with my rep at Autometer for you and they said that if ANY Autometer gauges fog, you can send them in with a note stating you have a fogging issue and want the "anti-fog" lens installed. They will do this free of charge as a warranty repair.

One thing about sending them in is how long does it take? Can the glass be removed by us to send in alone so we don't have to go the the time to completely dis-connect everything.

Autometer says 4-5 business day turn-around. The bezel is pressed on, then crimped, which you will not be able to do at home.

That's a good thought, I wonder if we could buy new guages and send back the old for a credit? Keith, could you post your reps. phone # I'd like to work this out. By the way my Boost guage is fog free... . I wonder why two would fog and the one won't ? Thanks for the help. .

Devildog... ... . that is a good idea also... ..... Keith, what do you think about that? I just hate to go through all of that work 3 times (first install, dis-assembly, re-assembly) That is why I haven't do anything about it yet. TIA

I talked to Autometer last week and asked if I could get replacement gauges. Then just send the ones that fog back. They said no. I had to send in mine for repair.



My transmission temp and Pyro. fog. My boost does not fog.

Because it's a warranty claim basically, they have to get your gauge in.

I stopped mine from fogging....

I think mine started fogging because of my husky floor mats that have been accumulating small water puddles from daily use. When I shut down for the night the water on the mats contributes to condensation inside the cab. I keep a bath towel hanging on a rafter in the open-ended shed with gravel floor that I park in. Take the husky mat out and wipe it dry. Next morning no problem with fogging. I had no problem with fogging until the rain and generally wet weather started, so if this works I'm not going to go through the PITA return/exchange. Otherwise, I'm going to send it in because I think the cycle of moisture and then drying is not good for the internal guage components and will eventually take a toll.

I believe this is going to turn into an A$$ ache... . Especially if we do nothing and the guages begin to corrode from the inside out... . I knew I should of done something from the start, especially when I noticed the first couple of days after the installation, well I figured it would evaporate and that would be that... ... It's a major pain in the A$$ to remove the pillar once you install the plasic pins, mine REFUSE to come out without damage and I had mine dyed to match the camel interior.

I'm hoping for a better solution than to be without guages for TWO WEEKS ( 4-5 days plus shipping there & back) let alone the gaping holes in the pillar and to plug off the turbo... . Keith any other reasonable idea's Thanks...

Is this only happening with the gauges mounted on the A-pillar?

Or is it Autometer gauges, in general?

Another thread said that Autometer got some "bad glass" last summer. This is when I bought mine. I agree that it will be no fun getting this problem fixed.

Fog.

My vender that I bought my Auto meters from has replaced 3 pyro gauges and 3 Trans. temps. for me, the Trans. still fogs the new Pyro. is OK, never had a problem with the boost. I don't have the heart to go back on the Trans. again, these guys have bent over backwards for me, wish Auto Meter would get it together.

I bought mine from Diesel Dynamics they are also good to deal with, I've spent alot of money there. Now I 'm (we are) trying to figure out which way to go to correct this problem.

I bought three AutoMeter gauges. TWO of them were defective. Autometer unfortunately is now on my "Fram" list.

This problem, with Autometer gauges fogging up, has been well documented on TDR since last summer. In fact, when I tried to order a set from Geno's, they warned me that there was a problem and gauges were on backorder... Ordered Westachs from Geno's; saved money; they have worked flawlessly since installed...

Yep, I hear you Rick unfortuantly I bought mine before this came out, I was one of the first to post on it. I really like the gauges they seem to work great, if I can just get the Trans. Temp. fixed I will be OK. I like your CUT AWAY ENG. VIEW. Neat.

If Diesel Dynamics does anything more than refer you to Autometer, please post. That's what they told me, and I've heard that another vendor replaced the guage and then fought it out with Autometer, which is what I had hoped for. I've got a $200 fuel pressure guage fogging on me

I got mine through ADT and they sent me the new ones first. Then I shipped the old one back. Haven't had a problem since.



I would go after the people that sold you the gauge. If they can't stand behind a product that they sell you might want to think about using a different vendor.....
