JNutter, I used some egg crate foam and 3-M super 99 spray adhesive to hold it behind the seat. Real easy to install. Ther are better sound deadening materials out there(LUX from the ford site made his own), but I had the foam on hand. It did cut down(?) on the behind the seat noise. Hope that helps!!

I have not done the muffler yet . There is still the drone frome the axel back when standing on drivers side but not from axle forward.
This is whats her names vacation with her family so I have to squeeze every thing in between their doins. the puter is avail able very early am & late pm.
I have not been able to get under the truck and positivly absolutly pin it down to the muffler but it seems to be eminating from the rear of the muffler or the tail pipe over the axle

Well, I have installed 3 seperate pieces of small bar channel(shaped like a C)to both straight pipes (27" and 22")and the muffler, have stitch welded them on the pipe and muffler, not a single reduction has been noticed by my ears. Do you think that the angle has a better frequency suppression, or does welding it probably make the whole thing vibrate now. Im thinking of installing an exaust wrap over the whole thing and see what that does, but first I guess I will call Jardine for thier two cents worth.

Stoped in at Stan's Headers in Auburn Wa today. I had them fit approx 6' of 1/8 X 3/4 flat stock on tail pipe, on top ofbend over axle and to within 1" of outlet . they then reinstalled hangers and pipe connector clamps added clamps at each end and center of straight parts of pipe. presto chango no more exhaust drone except from muffler at idle in neutral.

It is quiet in the cab say for the fuel knock and injector pump tickety. Its great to hear the radio again. Whats her name said she will not be removing body parts. #ad

the 30" muffler Jardine supplies is very quiet and has a real low base tone.

The people at Stans Headers in Auburn, Wa are first class. they mfg. custom headers and exhaust systems for any application and also supply several retailers with 4" systems. They have a large shop and mfg. facilities. UPS stopped while I was there and pick up several exhaust systems being drop shipped for retailers.

their web site is www.stans-headers.com

This is an unsolicited plug !!!!!!!!

I only wish DC was this helpful and knowledgeable.

Its fun to drive again!!!!!!! #ad

Ditto on Stan's Headers. They installed my 4" exhaust with a very cool 5" chrome tip and I am totally satisfied. They took the time to ensure that everything fit just right and welded all the connections. These guys are first class exhausts craftsmen. No ordinary muffler shop here. It cost a couple of bucks more than the do-it-yourself mail order kit, but very reasonable in comparison. Fit and Finish is outstanding and customer service is second to none. Highly recommended if one has the opportunity.

Yep It's a done deal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Went over to cousin in laws or some such thing this morning and took 3 - 1/4" X 3/4" flat bar and 3' of 5/16 all thread and made 3 band clamps. took the 24" 1" angle iron, cut it to 22" and clamped it to the muffler... ... ... It is now as quiet inside as with factory exhaust. . except now you can hear the turbo spool up and down, stock air filter and snorkel inside box and into fender, silencer ring installed.
I sure wish I had the time to stop in at Jardine and let them remove clamps, bars, angle iron and see what they have to say????????/

just bringing it up top for all the guys on prod. & acces. who have been asking.

worked like a charm. quiet at all speeds and loads.

back home now. DTT tc and vb are great. Pac brake is great as is the

I have been traveling without consistant access to the net. My muffler is the little dinky one. Exhaust sound not objectonable - mellow like a straight piped diesel. The drone in the 70-80 mph range is objectionable, and it sounds like Jnutter has the solution. I'm thinking maybe about spot welding the angle iron in place. I also like the idea of foam behind the rear seat. In the meantime, I'm limiting my driving to 69mph. I'm gettng 22-23 mpg there, and it drops to 18. 8 at 80. I'de rather spend the extra hour and keep the fuel money in my pocket.

Some one else tried welding:::: It did not work.

GOTA LOVE ALL THOSE CLAMPS

1/8" X 3/4" bar stock will work on tail pipe with clamps. If you start about 4' from the drivers side of truck and walk back you should not hear any exhaust drone or noise, if you do that is the area to start the bar stock and clamps, Yes I did the short straight sections of the tail pipe that goes over the axle:
Good luck

JNUTTER,

When you installed the angles how many per section of pipe?
I have welded just one piece per straight section and muffler.

I have called jardine and they say they dont know what im talking about, havnt had anybody complain, yea right! I will be up there in january and then let them say "no comprehendo".

I have welded just one piece per straight section and muffler.

I used one piece , laid it on top and clamped the sections of pipe with 4 clamps on exhaust pipe , fabricated band clamps from 1/8
x 3/4 bar stock ( home depot ) and 3/8 all thread for the muffler, 1/8 X 3/4 flat bar stock for the tail pipe and 3 clamps on each short srtaight section .
If you can get a grinder on the angle , grind slots so that a muffler clamp will fit, or get U bolts bent ( spring shop ) that are long enough to fit over the angle: Irecomend muffler clamps as they saddle the pipe for a near 360 deg compression. start with the straight extension from down pipe to muffler as that is the most offensive beining right under the cab and easyest to acess. The hardest part was making the 7" bands for the muffler. Drew 7" circle on some 1" plywood, set the angle (inverted) and drew it on then drew the bolt ears about 2" part. Cut it out and used the wood to form the band clamps on. drilled holes for the all thread and installed.
I personally think that the problem is the mild steel pipe. A heavier gauge or harder alloy would not have this problem: but I'm not a metalurgest nor an engineer. The stock pipe was an extremly hard steel and heavier gauge,Dulled 3 air chisles and still liked to never have cut off the stock pipes. The next one will probably be a banks, stainless and no retro engineering to make it work.

JNutter, the Banks stainless steel is not an answer. I'm working on mine to reduce the resonance that starts about 2100 RPM. I put two 3' pieces of angle on the straight section under the cab which improved things slightly. I'm going to put angle on the 18" section in front of the muffler and then the muffler itself. If this shows improvement I'll continue toward the back and then start soundproofing the cab. I've got orders from the wife, fix it or else. I don't know what "else" is put I hope it isn't her or the truck. Tough decision. #ad

Are you using clamps or welding?????
whats her name was going to remove body parts: it would have been easier to choose between whats her name and the ram !!!!!!!!!!

I wonder if some one could make a vibration isolating flex section ( not that cheap spiral flex pipe )to install in the down pipe. Some eaons ago some one had a thread on this but I havent been able locate it : guess im using the wrong search words...

JNUTTER, I made clamps out of c channel and allthread, put one angle on top and one on the bottom. I ground a notch in the angle where the c channel made contact. I have four clamps on the 3' section. Tom W

I think using clamps has the effect of SQUEEZING the pipe and containing the expansion pulses, whereas welding only affects the narrow strip of exhaust where the angle iron makes contact. This would explain why welding doesn't help much.

One thing to remember on any of these systems is that it is going to be louder with 4:10 gears then with 3:54s(obviously running at a higher rpm). A stock system with the muffler gone is fine at highway speeds with 3:54s but way to loud with 4:10s. I've had trucks with both. Also it seems that the further back the muffler is the quieter it is. The system I have now works the best of any that I've seen as far as noise and performance. 4" with the Walker muffler T. Jannetty uses on his system.

I wonder if 3 3/4 or 4 1/4" pipe would make a difference #ad

how about the stock down pipe and then 4" or, or, or... ... ... ... ... #ad

Hows bout 3 or 4" house vent pipe - light in wt and easy to get and not costly (hehehe)! #ad
