JNUTTER,
When you installed the angles how many per section of pipe?
I have welded just one piece per straight section and muffler.
I used one piece , laid it on top and clamped the sections of pipe with 4 clamps on exhaust pipe , fabricated band clamps from 1/8
x 3/4 bar stock ( home depot ) and 3/8 all thread for the muffler, 1/8 X 3/4 flat bar stock for the tail pipe and 3 clamps on each short srtaight section .
If you can get a grinder on the angle , grind slots so that a muffler clamp will fit, or get U bolts bent ( spring shop ) that are long enough to fit over the angle: Irecomend muffler clamps as they saddle the pipe for a near 360 deg compression. start with the straight extension from down pipe to muffler as that is the most offensive beining right under the cab and easyest to acess. The hardest part was making the 7" bands for the muffler. Drew 7" circle on some 1" plywood, set the angle (inverted) and drew it on then drew the bolt ears about 2" part. Cut it out and used the wood to form the band clamps on. drilled holes for the all thread and installed.
I personally think that the problem is the mild steel pipe. A heavier gauge or harder alloy would not have this problem: but I'm not a metalurgest nor an engineer. The stock pipe was an extremly hard steel and heavier gauge,Dulled 3 air chisles and still liked to never have cut off the stock pipes. The next one will probably be a banks, stainless and no retro engineering to make it work.
