A couple of weeks ago my dealer quoted me about 90. 00 to replace my fuel filter on my 05... . I passed and started checking prices on the filter, 37. 00 from Dodge, 13. 00 from Geno's... ... I just finished swapping it out in about 15 mins in the driveway.

Am I the only one this scam has been tried on??? Unbelieveable!!

Also if you have a local Cummins authorized service facility handy as I do a mile from my work place you can get the Fleetguard filters (fuel, oil, air) a whole lot cheaper. I just bought a Fleetguard fuel filter recently for $10. 00 bucks & change and no shipping cost to pay. :D

Repeat after me: "I WILL NEVER BUY ANY PART FROM A DEALER THAT I CAN GET FROM CUMMINS OR GENO's... " There... Now you will feel lots better. . :D

when I had my injecter pump replaced DODGE told me I had to get a new filter to warranty the job and it cost almost 80. 00 installed. I too get mine from Cummins at 10. 00 and they told me that the mopar one was better. Hmmm. Fleetgaurd is owned by cummins right? Jason

My dealer wanted $110. 00. I also passed and did it myself. Less then 15 minute job. You have to watch those dealers.

Fleetguard makes the filter for Mopar.

My dealer threatened to void my warrenty if i didn't buy there filter.

I suppose your dealer could refuse to do the oil change if you brought in your own filter, but he could never void your warranty for using a fleetguard filter... ;)

I am not sticking up for dealer service and I do not buy my filters from them, or have my truck serviced there, but how do you expect them to make money? There is a lot more involved when you run a business than the 20 minutes it took the techinican to get your truck, change the filter and put it back in the lot. Just to name a few, there is the cost of the facility, the cost of the people who maintain the inventory of parts, the guy who books the appointment, the phone service to take the call, insurance, it goes on and on. It is posted on here all the time about the high cost of dealer service, try running a bussiness and see what overhead costs before you do any work, you would be amazed. As far as the parts themselves, the dealers do not make much reselling them, they pay top dollar as well.

I'm not bashing you Bertram65, but if these dealers are paying "top dollar" for these fuel filters, then they should give Geno's a call and save some money. :-laf Heck they could call a local Cummins dealer save alot there as well.

I will never buy any part from a dealer that I can get from Cummins or Geno's.

Ahhh... I love the free market!

I work at a Dodge dealer, It's not the dealer who is setting the price for the parts, it all comes from big brother Chrysler. Yes buying the parts is cheaper from outside sources but as you all know Chrysler would never let them do that. As for the install cost of the parts, at $90. 00 to $110. 00 per hour, Don't take a scientest to do the math.

Attempting to order some parts on Tuesday I asked my local dealer if they would price match dodgeparts.com. When I told him the price from them, he said "NO WAY". Then he said "That site is really unfortunate". To which I replied "Unfortunate for who?". He said "Dealers everywhere. "

Those who are unwilling to embrace the free market are doomed to become its victims.

I had a similar experience. The local dodge Dealer is selling the Fuel filter for $46. 50 and air filter for $35. I am glad I did not buy it and went to the Cummins and got these for $11 and $18.

BTW , do I have to fill up the fuel filter chamber with diesel after I put the new filter in the chamber in order to avoid air in it.

I have 2001 3500 diesel 4x2 and I am afraid that the truck may not start after I change the fuel filter. This will be my first time to do it.

I had to take the truck to shop when I ran out of diesel and the priming did not help. They had to bleed the injectors.

Just "bump" the starter (without starting) wait about 20 seconds, then "bump" it again. That should fill the canister back up. I would not recommend filling the chamber up after your filter change. It works for me... ;)

I'm not sure if the "bump the starter trick" works on a 2001. You probably should ask the question over in the 2nd Gen forum.

My last CTD was a 2001... Believe me... you can "bump" the starter and it will activate the LP... . ;)

Good deal. :) I just didn't want to see the guy get stranded if it didn't work.

This is my first CTD. 20 months and 50,000 miles, but I'm still a newbie! :-laf
