I can't speak for the replacement tank but I installed my 75 gallon in-bed auxilary tank by myself. It was very easy. The only challenge was obtaining the specified size hole saw to cut the prescribed hole from bed inside wall to the void between inner and outer bed walls.
 
Harvey. I live in a salt region and I take my truck and trailer to desert areas. So the duplicolor bedliner in a spray is not cheap. . it has a plasticized quality. . I used it in my old 2001 truck. So coating the tank to protect it should be good.
 
That might make sense. When I looked at the TF website they now offer spray-on bed liners and spray on external tank treatment - for $175!
 
Aero 60 gal. tank

I have an Aero 60 gal tank in a 1998. 5 since it was new, about 14 years, not so many miles though, maybe 165K. So far, no rust issues inside nor out. I have had them re-weld a couple of seams which cracked. They asked me if I "4-wheeled" over rough terrain which might twist the truck frame because that could have caused the cracking problem. I did and I do. If I ever buy another new truck, it will get another of Aero tank.
 
I had to weld my aero tank way too many times. I told them up front I do a lot of off roading. The bottom was double walled to protect it-that part worked out great... ... ... . but the mounting brackets just plain sucked. I added gusetting where I had the room,had to always double nut all the fastners because of the poor design. I finally just removed the tank. I don't take as many long trips anymore and the cracking mounts and tank no longer were worth the trouble.



Any one familiar with aluminized steel knows that welding on it burns the aluminizing off. Then the rust issue is the same as any mild steel.



So if anyone still wants a 40 gallon off road tank hit me up with an offer :-laf
