Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Removing the Crankshaft HELP

I am picking it up in a few hours, but I am scared that they are doing a band-aid on the problem. Could that be the case? I was having the "dead pedal" symptom and pulling a 0216 code through the odometer. Could that all have been caused by a dying LP? I was pulling down to well under 10PSI when accelerating hard.

My question is whether a new LP could "fix" the VP44 code? I thought once I had that code that the VP44 was a goner. Also, if the VP44 is OK I will consider the FASS system so that everything is OK, but I think it would be a stupid purchase if the VP44 is dying because I am sure the dealer will not warranty a bad injection pump if there is an aftermarket pump feeding it. Is there any way to verify the VP44 is in good shape? It is a shame that this is the Achille's heel for these trucks... :(

Please help.

Thanks.

Zach-

I had the exact same code come up on mine. At light throttle it would hesitate a little or it would have the dead pedal. The replaced the lift pump first because that was bad, then after taking it in there 2-3 more times they replaced the VP44 because the problem came back. The VP44 is a very pricey item so they have to get "approval", so to speak, through DC to be able to replace it. I think hey ask the tech a long list of questions, (did they check this and that) then DC will send out a reman VP44. I know, it's a pain in the a** to get the right thing done just because they want to save them selves the buck.
