What's going on? Everyone is jumping on everyone else, assuming that either Koop is completely dishonest or that dealerships are ran by complete *******s. Koop isn't here to defend himself and we don't even know what led the dealer to tell DC to pull the plug on his warranty. Maybe his engine or his suspension are heavily modified, that doesn't mean that the dealer shouldn't do there best to identify the problem, which might have nothing to do with the mods and could be resolved under warranty, or maybe it is related to his mods, at least they could help the guy figure out what's wrong and give him the option to pay and have it repaired, or take it elsewhere. The fact that he's upset doesn't make him a soulless ******* that expects something for nothing. The dealer might be smart for wanting nothing to do with his truck, but that doesn't make it right to veto his entire warranty.

BTW DPKetchum I agree with you that this guy should seek out a factory rep, but you shouldn't assume someone isn't paying there own way just b/c they're in there 20s. I'm 23 & work 2 jobs to pay my own way and I know alot of people that do the same.

It also isn't right for ppl to assume that they've seen alot more just b/c they were around 30 years ago. The nearest diesel station to where I live does a ****ty job cutting their fuel. I filled my transfer tank w/ 100 gallons of their fuel in Dec. b/c it was fairly warm, about 25 (the ground wasn't even frozen), and the next nearest station is half an hour away. Treated the full 100 gallons. My excavator gelled up. When I went to get a new filter and some better additive, my truck gelled up. After putting my spare filter in and using additive I had to have someone tow me home so I could stick a heater under it even though it was at least in the mid 20s.

I don't trust dealerships after the one I bought my truck from told my the cummins was a v8

The biggest thing that has happened is TECHNOLOGY.

You are totally correct. Technology can be a wonderful thing. Tires are better than they have ever been! Better quality electronic componants than back in the 70's. No more points :) Better engine tolerances! Remember the days were a 30's chevy dipper motor needed to be rebuilt at about 50k miles? Gasket technology has come a long way. So many things are better as they used to be. However, lots of things are not. Heres a quick list, ABS, multiple computers controlling the whole car, engine cylinder deactivation systems, optispark, drive by wire electronic throttle cable, traction control that does not allow burnouts, braking by wire, black boxes, etc. There are lots of overcomplication in cars today that is not needed. We have used a throttle cable for almost 100 years, why change now? Don't fix something unless it is broken

Dealer didn't tell you it was a V8. A wanna be sales slob did. Every one knows they come and go like flys on a dead pig. (well most do) I don't deal with salesman anyway. Or if I do I ask who KNOWS the product that works HERE. I don't chat to whoever comes walking up in a Billy Bob suit and a card in his hand.

A lot of what you listed is great TECHNOLOGY! Who NEEDS a throttle cable? ABS is great in my book. Love the way it works! Traction control, works great. Why live in the dark ages. I'm waiting for tires and wheels to go by by.

Not even funny, just plain rude

Rude? :-laf

I really can't believe this thread is still going, but I did learn something from it.

I've realized that EBottema complains about the throttle cable in 75% or more of his posts. That seems to be the center of concern for him.

Should we tell him that he has no throttle at the end of his cable? Oo.

Yes, actually it is. Once you get a little older you'll realize that you've seen and know a lot less than you think. Ahh to be 23 and have the world figured out! :) Consider how much you know now compared to when you were 15!

Ebottema - sometimes you dig yourself deep enough into a hole that it's time to just cut your losses :-laf Have you named your throttle cable in your truck? I agree it seems to be your favorite part of your truck. Funny, I haven't misssed having a throttle cable in either of my last two diesels. Also, I think you're being naive in thinking that some of today's cars won't be collectors items. Collector cars aren't all around because of their amazing technical merit, or their incredibly long lasting parts - they are around because they provide a great sense of nostalgia and a reminder of the days of old. I have no doubt that in 50 years someone will be collecting c5 corvettes, original vipers, miatas, and whatever else car people are into today. Maybe even a 2004 dodge cummins ram :D :-laf

As everyone gets older they learn different things but cutting my losses? It is not really even a big deal other than they are no cars made after 2005 that are worth owning for more than 5 years. You will miss your throttle cable when you get in your truck and the pedel sensor breaks and the truck wont move. Or better yet when your turning left at an intersection and the thing malfunctions and you get t-boned and 40mph.

I still want to hear what koopdaddy has been up too!

And there won't ever be the old style pumps ever again. Get over it and move on. I can also tell you theres been MANY a person strandard over a broken throttle cable and if my OLD MEMORY serves me correctly your driving the CHAMP year model with broken cables. LOL. As Well as rotted fuel lines, brake pulls,5th gear nuts backing off, light switch failures, dash cracks, oil in heater vacumn lines and control heads etc.

How can you get over such a terrible thing that has happened to the diesel world??? There was a recall on the cables since Dodge did not build it correctly. One the recall was done, mine and everyone elses cables have been just fine. No 5th gear nut here. Rotted fuel lines happened to me at 170k miles, but you cannot allow rubber to last 200k miles. Should be replaced by then. Dash cracks had to do with a poorly made product, agian an Dodge product. And your driving a Dodge too? Wait a few years and you will have more problems with dodge made parts on the truck, just watch...

Man. .

After reading this I can see why I am still living in the dark ages and own a real truck without a computer. Long live the 12 valves!. By the way, someone please pass the popcorn bowl or finish shooting the dead horse already..... Andy

Now that is :-laf , and describes his posts really well. Although I won't block them, their lack of perspective really provides some amusement. :)

BTW Shyans, careful on your way home from work today - your drive by wire could break and send you over a cliff! :-laf Like throttle cables have never broken. . lol I've got over 300k miles on drive by wire on 3 vehicles with no issues. . and we used to have a viper that constantly had to have it's throttle cable adjusted... go figure... :-laf

Oh good, I can scratch "BOMB my throttle cable" from the must do list... whew! :-laf

Am I glad I read this thread. I hope the folks at Boeing & Lockheed read this. I hope they go back to using cables again. I guess we shouldnt fly until they do.
