After reading this I can see why I am still living in the dark ages and own a real truck without a computer. Long live the 12 valves!. By the way, someone please pass the popcorn bowl or finish shooting the dead horse already..... Andy

I can only assume EBottema uses a long broomhandle to change TV stations. No "high-tech" wireless remote controls running out of battery power and leaving his TV hopelessly stranded on Oprah! :-laf

Ba Da Bing... . Ba da Boom! :-laf

He should have bought a 89 model. Had more cables and liminted to 75(down hill) mph wide open. Kinda like a truck with training wheels.

Am I glad I read this thread. I hope the folks at Boeing & Lockheed read this. I hope they go back to using cables again. I guess we shouldnt fly until they do.

How long has this been going on ... ... ... 30 years or more? Same with ABS?

As everyone gets older they learn different things but cutting my losses? It is not really even a big deal other than they are no cars made after 2005 that are worth owning for more than 5 years. You will miss your throttle cable when you get in your truck and the pedel sensor breaks and the truck wont move. Or better yet when your turning left at an intersection and the thing malfunctions and you get t-boned and 40mph.

I still want to hear what koopdaddy has been up too!

Valid point. Cars and trucks are designed today to be impossible to repair by anyone except dealerships. This ensures trade-ins at the end of the warranty period. That enables the dealership to sell the vehicle again and make another profit, offer another warranty period, and make more service and accessory profit. But it is making it increasingly difficult for those of us who wrench our own vehicles out of desire or neccessity, and makes it nearly impossible to keep a vehicle for more than three years. They REALLY want us to lease, and turn the vehicle over at the end of the lease peiod. With the prsent setup, that may end up being the best option. That, or the bus.

I just about killed myself about a month ago with your super safe reliable throttle cable. It stuck wide open on my 98, and while not the fastest 12v out there it was going fast enough to kill me or someone else. Had OD locked out so I was only going about 70 MPH in the blink of an eye @ 3500 rpm. Knocked into N and listened to my turbo barking as it shut down. So even though this ultra reliable throttle cable that has been around for 100 years does not make it the best.

if he tapped the speed sensor and the odometer is also taken from the speed sensor? then for all the dealership knows he may have tweaked it so his truck would still be under warranty! that would void the whole truck warranty.

That's it I bet. Dealer figured the speedo was altered and that would be a big no no. I would talk to a Lawyer.

I really hope I can discover a 3rd gen owner that is decent and worth talking to. Some of your guys are so mindless. I bash some stupid part on your truck and you bash me. Sounds really childish to me. Mommy wahhhaaa he's making fun of my truck babahaha stop it waaahhaa i'm going to make fun of him wwwaaaaha... Please if this is how some of your are going to act please ignore me so I don't need to hear you bashing me. I have never personally bashed any of you, there is no reason to bash me.

Boy, is the "real" EBottema gonna be ****** when he finds out his 8 year old son has been logging on to TDR and destroying his reputation by using his screen name and posting these gems.

The final update.....

Just got a call from a DC rep and was told that my vehicles warranty will be reinstated IMMEDIATELY, except for my powertrain. I was told that they had seen this post and did some research. I am very happy, and I wish it could have been like this from the beginnig. As this is a good thing for me, please let this be a lesson for all of you who post here. DC DOES read this board, and they know what you have and do not have...

They still claim, "there is nothing wrong". I guess all the new CRD's should sound just like a 99 24 valve... ... . I really don't think that anyone, and I mean anyone really knows enough about these trucks to properly diagnose the associated problems that occur with the common rail.

Well, I'm glad to hear that you got your warranty on the rest of the truck, those perfomance mods has nothing to do with a power window that might quit. Haven't heard the truck so can't say for sure but I would check the valve settings and drive the truck and see what happens. I know that all of the common rails that I've heard run get's louder with age and miles regardless of performance mods. I've never heard a good explanation for the increase in noise but I have heard it may be the solenoid in the top of the injector that we're all hearing.

I'm still voting on a blown head gasket. It is loud and you mentioned coolant leaking. I would not be suprised with all that boost from the HTB2 pounding away at the head gasket.....
