Drilled Exhaust Housing Divider, Lower Boost

Fass Install

Well, the tax return hit the check book today. Oo. The easy part is ordering Don's 5's. Now the hard part, which turbo? I'm going HTT as the manufacturer, but still trying to figure out which one  I want the 14 cm2 housing for the mid to higher rpm boost/volume, so that's not the issue. I'll get the 4" down tube. I plan on mainly street driving with a semi-annual visit to the dyno & maybe the occasional blast down the dragstrip, I tow nothing. I'm aware of, and prepared for, the possible surging issue that can be experienced with the 64 and 66 series under 2000 rpms (just step on the go pedal a bit more :-laf ).

The decisions that are plaguing me are:

1-Other than the listed ranges of hp/tq ratings - what's the difference between, and benefit, or drawbacks of the HTB2 series versus the HTT71 series? I have read the literature on the High Tech site and understand that one has a larger shaft & turbine wheel, better oil drain clearances, and etc. than the other. But, what I don't understand is how these differences will benefit my planned style of driving?

2-Then what's the difference/benefit etc. of the HTB2 Killer 64 versus the 71 Quick Diesel 64?

3-Then what's the difference/benefit etc. of the HTB2 Sled Puller 66 versus the 71 Pro Street 66?

4-Ultimately, what's the best for my plan/style of driving?

"I'm sooo confused"

HELP!!! :{

I ran a HTB2 62/12, 62/14 & 64/14 before my Super Stock 62. The main thing to remember when looking at differences in HT turbos is the Super Series turbos are gonna flow better because they have the killer wheel on the turbine side & better flowing housings. The bigger turbine wheels will come in later, but reach peak boost faster... . way faster! The smaller the compressor wheel = faster initial spoolup, but the larger the turbine wheel = faster from 10psi to 50psi..... like a rocket got shoved up your tailpipe. If you don't tow & want a good turbo for racing/fun... . get a Super turbo! I'd recommend a Quick Diesel 64 for your driving habits. I wouldn't get a HTB2 64 because they won't keep you cool & won't flow/spool like a quick diesel will & it really wasn't fun to drive like the Super series are. When I switched from a Htb2 64/14 to the Super Stock 62..... I dropped Egts by 200* overall & enjoy the driving experience alot more too. Get the Quick Diesel 64... . trust me.

Haven't towed with the HTT 64 yet, but so far, I really like it. Spools faster than my PDR did. Allows the fuel to come on harder, too. :D

"NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!" :D I "love" this site! Thanks for the replies.

24V-DSL Good idea. I planned to ask them, but wanted to hear from fellow "guys like me" first. And, someone that's tried more than one or two.

Cummins724 - "THANK YOU", I don't think I could have received a better response to the questions asked. Exactly what I was hoping to hear, from someone that had tried several chargers. You basically already compared all the turbos I was considering/wondering about, and explained the things I wasn't getting about the differences between them. OUTSTANDING! Thank you. :D

bmoeller - Thanks for sharing your experience.

Anyone else? - I plan on ordering this week. Thanks

No problem..... If you lived closer I'd let you try mine out. I bought the 3rd gen turbo so that I can run a 3rd gen exhaust brake on my truck. If you have the 4" downpipe on your truck..... I have a hx40 flange sitting on my shelf in the garage. You'll need to cut your flange off & weld this flange on if you plan on using a hx40 style housing..... it will save you some cash. I run the SS62 in my sig & it cools so well that I actually tow 10k-15k with it daily & have no egt problems with 150hp sticks [Equal to M4's]. Since you don't tow at all... . I'd definately get the Quick 64 & it will keep the egts perfect with M5's. The SS62 outflows a HTB2 64/14 & a Quick 64 will outflow the HTB2 66. I wouldn't get a 66 because they just aren't no fun to drive & the Quick 64 will be more than enough turbo for you..... besides it will cost you less to upgrade from a Quick 64 to a Pro Street 66 than the other way around anyways... . incase you decide to go bigger later. The Smarty really helps out getting these big turbos spooling... ... lightning fast.

Cummins724 - Thanks again. Appreciate the offer for the flange. I'm getting a new downtube with the turbo, the one I have now is a 3" leaving the turbo welded into a 4" about 3-4 after it leaves the turbo. It's what came with the Magnaflow system. Appreciate you steering me towards what I was hoping folks would reply/suggest - the Quick 64. Now I can place the order for sticks and charger tomorrow Oo. :-laf

No problem at all... . anything else... just shoot. Thats what we are here for.

Ordered charger and sticks

Ordered HTT Series 71, QD 64/14 and Mach 5s Oo.

Charger to arrive next Friday and the sticks the following friday.

It's going to be hard - not installing the charger - until the sticks come in

I could, but would like to get maximum shock factor  :-laf out of the complete combo as a whole.

We have a local truck with close to you setup. Mach 5. 5's, QD64, hot juice, and makes 626hp.

The more technical answer to a larger turbine:

The larger turbine wheel has more surface area for the exhaust gasses to impinge upon. This gives more power to drive the compressor wheel (due to surface area, leverage, etc). It will provide more top end flow, quicker transient spool, etc.

In english, Higher turbine speeds LOL

You didn't order a smarty? You aren't getting cheap on us are you. LOL:-laf

I'm just kidding..... you are gonna pizz your pants when you get that turbo lit off. I would wait for the injectors too, but make sure you buckle your seatbelt & put a diaper on cause it is gonna rock your world! Oo.

The more technical answer to a larger turbine:

More technical indeed, but now I'm lost. LOL :-laf I'm just a ole hillbilly from Pa..... not really a technical kinda guy. I still got my teeth, but my overalls are missing my snuff pouches!:-laf

The 626 hp involved a "better" VP44 that I got for him, and a Smarty from Bob Wagner.

thats right, forgot about the pump.

I dont recall what it made with the hot juice/5. 5 combo. I know with the hot juice/DD3's, it made 495 and 1013. I dont think we ran it with the hot juice/mach 5. 5 combo without the pump.

:-laf

Thats true. :-laf

However, I get tired of hearing the same vague answers about stuff like that. some people want the more techincal side of things... .

Where is Levittown, Pa? I haven't heard of it. I'm near Uniontown, Pa. [SouthWestern, Pa]

L-Town is in the North East, about a 1/2 hour north of Philadelphia, near Bristol, PA, not too far from Trenton, NJ - close to last exit on the PA turnpike before you go over the Delaware River into NJ. In southern Bucks County.

As far as the Smarty, my wife went through the ceiling when she saw the check for the turbo and sticks. :-{} :-laf She'll get over it, maybe;) I can borrow Smarty from a friend if for anything just to get the latest software bump in my EMC / PMC, whatever thingy magiggie.
