Most of the Mason-Dixon TDR chapter know about this deer runs into truck incident. I wasn't a happy camper about 3/4 of my passenger side being banged up. Life throws you lots of curve balls so just grin and bear it! Well contact with the deer was a piece of cake compared to dealing with the insurance company and the body shops( two). Here it goes because I need to vent.

Waited three weeks to get an appointment. Take truck in to be repaired said it would take 7-10 working days. Just body and paint work needed to be done. I call at 7 days and I'm told need 2 more days. OK. Call two days later and its still not ready. Tell them I need the truck tomorrow and BTW it will be ten days. Go to pick up truck and notice there is overspray on the frame, springs, roof, windows, and door jambs. There are three spots that are still bare metal. There are runs and sand in the paint. I say what is this???? I'm told that the work is way above average. Say What! I tell them if this was a 40K dollar Lexus it wouldn't look like this. We go round and round about the condition of my truck until he finally says," Well you brought the truck to me wrecked, what do you expect. " At this point I decide to leave or else I might have done something I would later regret.

Round two:

Fight with the insurance company about ****ty work. I'm told to take the truck back to be fixed correctly. Spend the next half hour telling the adjuster no way I'm going back there again. We settle this the next day.

Round three.

Go to a new body shop. I had work done there in the past with good results. Forgot to ask if any ownership changes in the past 6 years. Oops. They assure me they still do excellent work and will make me happy. Drop truck of monday afternoon. They say truck should be done Friday (maybe) or Monday. Ok. Call friday and not close to being done. Hopefully Tuesday or Wednesday. I tell them it has to be done Wednesday because I'm moving out of state on Thursday morning!!!! They say we don't want to rush things.

What am I missing? the first repair was for 41 hours. they had 80 hours to do the work. The second repair is for 22 hours and they say they may not be done after 56 plus hours? This is factored on only 8 hour work days. what gives. Do they work for free? I know there is some down time ( paint drying etc. ) but that's what the other 16 hours are for in each day.

Sorry, had to vent. This will bring the total repair time to 3. 5 weeks. That's a LONG time to be without the Cummins. :(

I just hope they get it right this time.

I was kidding--couldn't resist. Good luck getting things fixed properly. Where I live there are some great body shops and my insurance company lets me select the body shop without even getting another bid or more.

KMeek,

Sorry I don't have any pictures to post. The white dually that was just hit looks much worse than my truck. As for whining ,I don't think so. I'm a patient person but I expect the work done right in a reasonable time frame. They told me the time frame, I didn't tell them. If you had paint work done to your truck and it came back with bare metal spots that hadn't been painted or primed, You would be ok with that? I used to own property in Wolf Creek. You should know where that is. It's very nice out there. With all the wild life out there, I hope you don't meet the same fate I did.

Body Shop

I gave my insurance company no chance to tell me who to take it to. I called my trailer dealer, who I have a great relationship with, and he told me to have this company tow it. After they pulled the tailpipe off the tire I drove to their shop. Called insurance company and told them it was there and to send adjuster. They did and we'll see how long it takes. They will start work Monday on it. Can't wait to get it back.

Good luck with your truck. Hope the shop does a good job on it.

KMeeks,

Sorry, little touchy right now. I saw your second post after I posted again. I'm jealous of where you live. I wish I was out there too. Take care.

I had better luck. A limb fell on my truck and smashed the C-pillar (between the Quad window and back glass). It was just shy of breaking the back glass.

Anyway I don't have homeowners and the auto deductible is $1000, so this was an out-of-pocket deal. I started hunting body shops to do the repair.

First guy (regular shop) walks right out and looks her over and says he can do it in 3-4 days time for 150-175. Next shop takes 45 minutes to give me a printed out estimate for 262. xx plus maybe $50 more if they pull the back glass. Then I hear that the first guy does some shoddy work and hear about a third fellow that works out of his house. And he's only one mile away. He said he could do it for $150 week after next. He then put me off one more week.

I took it to him on Monday got it back on Thursday and am very happy with the results. The paint match is great. There are some sanding marks and the pin-stripe isn't correct, but you have to look hard to see these faults. And the pin-stripe is an easy fix. But for $150!

So if she gets injured again, I know where to take her.

The majority of what I've seen come out of body shops is pathetic and WE and the insurance companies let them get away with it.

Better luck next time, but of course we all hope for NO NEXT TIME.

Ramafid,

You are a saint to put up with that kind of crap! I would have stuffed someone's head through their spray gun nozzle! I am very lucky here. I got some work done on my front end and the body shop even touched up my plastic on the bumper(previously painted flat black)for free.
